housing questions

I have two questions with regard to housing.

1) I noticed that when selecting facility type and room type preferences, you can select the same facility or room in every box. For example, instead of actually having to rank whether I want a residence hall, residential suite, or residential plaza, I can just say I want residence hall for all three of my first, second, and third choices. Is choosing residence hall for all three of my choices appropriate? If so, does it increase my chances of getting a residence hall?

2) Two of the room type preferences are:
a) triple room (three occupants)
b) triple room, shared bath

Is choice a pretty much "triple room, private bath"? (since it's not a shared bath)

Along similar lines as the first question, is choosing triple room, shared bath (for example) for all six of my choices appropriate; also, does it increase my chances of getting my "first" choice?

Thanks. I looked over the questions addressed in the stickied housing thread before I asked this.

I suppose you could say that. They MIGHT get the hint. But, I would rank the others just in case. If you REALLY want res hall, then there should be a question about which factor is most important to you and there you should indicate room or whatever it is. (Sorry! It's been SUCH a long time since I filled out the housing app...)

Yes, choice A would be a triple room but depending on your room preference may or may not be a private bath. It could be either A.) a plaza triple with private bath or B.) res hall triple with communal restrooms. Only plazas have shared baths (a bathroom shared btwn two rooms or 6 people) and private baths (shared btwn 1 room or 3 people.) The res halls only have the communal restrooms for the entire floor to share.

Actually, if you did that, you may end up with a plaza room since you can only have a "shared bath" in a plaza room. As I mentioned previously, res halls have communal restrooms to be shared with the entire floor so, if you want a res hall, you should indicate just the triple room.
