Housing questions

Hi.

I'm admitted into class of 2014 :D

I want a dorm with

Option for singles or doubles

Close to College of Letters and Science

Private bathroom preferred

thanks

^same here.

Forget the single, pray for a double.

CLS classes are scattered throughout the campus. Do you know how many depts it has in it??? Think a lot!

By private bathroom, I hope you mean shared with at least four other people.

I lol’d at “Private bathrooms”

Unless you’re handicapped, there’s almost no way to be in a single dorm. Even if you desire a double, there’s no absolute way to guarantee it. The lottery system is random for the most part and while they want to give you your preference, you have no say in what you get other than putting down your preference (ex: Unit & capacity).

Technically, there’s no way to be “close” to the College of L&S. It’s not like it’s located in one area, classes of L&S are held everywhere and there’s no true distinction for this. If you want close to campus, there’s Unit 4 (Foothill, Bowles, Stern), Unit 1 & Unit 3, while Unit 2 is slightly farther from campus from Unit 1 and Clark Kerr’s the farthest.

The closest thing to a private bathroom is either being part of a mini-suite (where you’ll have a bathroom shared amongst 4-5 other people).

I think we’d all like private bathrooms, but from what I’ve heard, it’s gonna be like a Roman bathhouse! (darn no single rooms either? oh well that’s what you pay for a great education I suppose…)

L&S classes are everywhere, but for me, most of my classes are near south side (humanities, mostly), so Unit 3 would be a pretty good choice.

And forget private bathrooms. Closest you’ll get in the Units is sharing one with 4 other people.

Sharing your bathroom with 32 other people might sound terrible at first but you’ll get over it after a day or two. If you want a more private bathroom, live in a suite (shared with 5-10 people). However, suites are much more expensive and much less social.

I’m prolly going into econ, math, or biochem…any of those classes near Unit 3?

In my experience, classes are scattered all over the place, especially when you’re just talking your breadths and prerequisites. Worry about being “closer” (if that is even possible) when you’ve actually declared your major.

i love the bathrooms. lol

what are the bathrooms like in the units residential halls? how many stalls? is the a shortage in hot water? clean? co-ed?

lol @ roman bath house. i think you might see something similar at Bowles. hahaha im just kidding.

is unit 3 good?

no private bathroom, u dont get to really choose ur dorm, wow ■■■. maybe i should go somewhere else. i used to be so excited to go to berkeley. : [

@ HISbeloved

3-4 stalls per floor, 3 showers
never a shortage of hot water (Better than home!)
cleaned everyday
you can choose to live on a single-sex floor.

@pokemon23 this applies to unit 3 correct?

Do people spend much time in dorms so that it matters that much? I’ll be checking out the dorms when i visit berkeley next wk :D

Berry14 - You can’t choose your dorm, just state preferences, at UCLA or UVA or basically any public college. Also, USC takes preferences but does not let you choose a specific dorm. You may need to pick a small LAC in order to get your choice, otherwise this is just how it is in college.

USC has many dorms with community bathrooms. While not coed, they are shared by the all the same gender on the floor. It would be pretty hard to find a college that guaranteed you your choice of room and dorm with guaranteed private bath.

You basically have to be disabled to get a single dorm room. Bottom line, even if you live in an apt. off campus, unless you’re independently wealthy or have rich parents, you’re going to be sharing a room and bathroom. You’ll deal.

@Berry14: If you’re someone who plans to be very active in groups out on campus or studying primarily in the library, then you won’t be spending as much time in the dorms that you think.
