Housing Recommendations?

Hi, I was recently accepted to UIUC for a major in Biology. As I am from out of state (Somerset New Jersey), I don’t know much about the housing so I was wondering if anybody could give me some recommendations.

Things that I want:

  • Wifi
  • Air conditioning and heat
  • within walking distance of the gym
  • relatively close to my classes (LAS Biology)
  • Fun roommates

I also often see people talking about a residence hall called Bromley on the UIUC Class of 2020 Facebook page. Why do so many people want to room there?

It’s private housing that offers everything that you want. There are also some search tools on the UIUC website that help you find housing that meets your needs.

My d lives in the 6 pack (Ikenberry area) and enjoys the location and all the freshman. The benefit of campus housing is that their meal plan allows her to eat in any of the school cafeterias all over campus. So depending on her schedule she is able to eat at many locations on the fly. It is right across from the gym and there’s also a smaller workout area in the Ike.

My son is in Bromley. Yes, the rooms are large and have semi-private baths. It is easy to sign up for a room and not wait for university housing lottery. It is more expensive so it tends to have wealthier kids who do like to have a good time. The wifi is consistently horrible, the food is average and you are stuck only eating there. They claim that the rooms are renovated but the carpet is nasty and everything looks out of date to me. I have been disappointed and feel it’s not worth the extra cost.

@UofImom19: so sorry to hear that it’s been disappointing at Bromley. Will your son move off campus next year? I wonder how easy it is to find an apartment.

room #04 on 909 S First is still available for August! Great studio apartment, I will not be living there anymore. Also very quiet! Contact Roland Realty!
