Hitchcock has singles. It is almost impossible to get one as a freshman. It is actually impossible to be assigned a single in Hitchcock via the initial freshman housing placements. A few may open up during the year (for example if someone goes abroad), and are lotteried off to those in the house to want them. Also, some roommates may switch rooms or houses leaving you in a precarious situation where your double is a single until someone claims it. But if you are placed into hitchcock, you are getting a freshman double, not a single, at least until later in your time at the college.

Is a single in BJ out of the question at this point?

Can anyone tell me about the New Graduate Residence hall dorm? I just can’t seem to find anything on it but I would love to hear more about it from any of you guys!

can anyone make suggestions about which building to request if you want to be close to classes, dining hall. Which building is newer?

thanks for any information,

@pxu666: from what I’ve heard, Max Palevsky’s the newest dorm closest to the center of everything…

South is also pretty new but a bit more of a walk.

I have found that the maps of campus are helpful in seeing where the dorms are located: [UChicago Maps](http://maps.uchicago.edu/index.shtml)

Hope that helps! :)

thanks very much. Is one residence hall much better than the others or most of them are pretty much the same except for location? I am no idea about any of them.

thanks

You’ve just been going through the college choice process and you think those are the two options? Just like colleges, there’s something of a question about what’s a fit for you. Do you want to be close to campus or have a bit of independence and a refuge? Do you want a big new shiny dorm or an old dorm steeped in tradition? Do you want huge houses full of doubles or smaller houses made of singles?
