About the Perkins Loan-

I actually talked to a fin. aid. Rep at NYU today and they said that the Perkins loan will appear for anyone who qualified (it should be on all your fin.aid. estimates sent to you via snail mail over the past year as well) for it. She said the reason no one recieved any info on it yet was b/c they hadn't sent out instructions for getting out MPN's and what-not yet. They are actually sending them out this week, so we should all be getting them very soon. She also send NYU will not hold anyone accountable concerning the loan (what I mean is, with your PLUS or other loans, they must be accepted into the NYU office before august 14th or they don't count...and it takes an average of 3-4 wks after you apply for you MPN for the loan to go through to the school) since NYU is the lender and it is being sent out so late. So nobody need fret over this. If you don't want it, though (it's a good loan w/ a low interest rate), then you should probably contact the office of financial aid after July 17th.

Hope that helps.

Fall 2006 07/10/2006 Housing - Estimated Charge $ 5,582.50
Fall 2006 07/10/2006 Hsg - Fall 14 Meal Plan $ 1,725.00

Thats what mine says. WHAT DORM AM I IN??

my choices were

Hayden
rubin
3rd N
Brittany
Wienstein
UHall

Yours is "estimated" so its not a for sure thing for you. Check the Housing Payments/Rates page and see if you can match the prices. If not, youre still waiting like me. Ha.

The problem with the Housing rates page is that the numbers don't match up. Maybe it's not updated or what not, but the bottom line is that it's hard to draw definitive conclusions from it. So now it's just a waiting game.

11165 doesnt match any dorm costs though, its 1000 away from Hayden and Weinstein, and 600 away from 3rd north.... But I was automatically placed on a meal plan, so does that mean im Definatly in a traditional dorm? Or is NYU just throwing numbers at us. I would be really happy with hayden or weinstein.......

Most don't match up exactly, try to find the one that is closest. That's your best bet.

I'm pretty sure they place everyone in a meal plan, regardless of traditional or apartment style.

I think (and hope) that $11165 is the cost of hayden (which on the site is 10,000) becuse of the fact that housing costs along with tuition keep rising, and there is no way that NYU would make a dorm 'cheaper' (3N in my case). And lastly, I want hayden, really badly.

My son had Hayden as first and UHALL as second. He got the same $11165. Seems too high from the Hayden number. I bet it's UHALL, But who knows?

If you go to the website for housing rates and average the cost for Hayden/Goddard/Weinstein (10,540) with U-Hall and 3rd north (11,790) you get 11,165- that's why the estimate- it appears at least that the dorm will be one of those 5 if your estimate shows 5,582.50.(half of the total for the yr)

AH, it's half from either the H/G/W bunch and the U/3rd! So NYU has the option of all five until they commit you to one in a couple of weeks. I get it.

Scrowman You Are Brilliant.

Scroman,I second that...

oops, scroWman. sorry.

I emailed the housing department:

Dear Ashley,

The $5582 charge for housing posted to your account with the Bursar is
an estimated housing charge for the Fall 2006 semester. This estimate
is provided to all incoming students and is based on the range of
housing rates available to freshmen.

Your official assignment notification will be sent to your permanent
home address beginning in August. With your assignment finalized, our
office will remove the estimated charges and post the rate
corresponding to your assignment.

Please keep in mind that requests, including those for low cost
housing, cannot be guaranteed by our office. In the event you are not
assigned to low cost housing, you do have the option of submitting a
room change request, although changes are also not guaranteed.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact our office
by phone at (212) 998-4600, or by responding to this e-mail.

Sincerely,

So this means that those of us with a bill of $11165 are just in one of those 5 dorms.......that sucks, I wish I knew where I lived already, people from most other schools already know...

I wonder how likely a dorm change request is?

Oooh. Im sorry i got everyones hopes up...i was so excited to finally know SOMETHING. But from this, at least, we can determine whether were in LCT, riggt? Because some people DID get diff #s than 5k, right? Eesh.

I have no special knowledge- it could be as you say- but I think my theory has validity jsut by looking at the numbers.
