Hi, I’m confident that I will be attending Bama next fall as a freshman. I have been accepted, paid my enrollment deposit and housing deposit and am waiting for the housing selection process to open up. I have liked the Facebook page for the University of Alabama Class of 2017. I am from Iowa and I don’t know of many people from Iowa going to Alabama next year so I am most likely going not knowing anyone. I also have heard about the roommate questionnaire but I can’t seem to find where that is at. What are some recommendations for finding roommates, especially if I won’t know anyone right away? Also, do I need to wait until I know my roommates to complete the room selection? Or can I complete the room selection and then figure out who my roommates will be later? Any suggestions will help. Thanks.

You create your roommate finder profile here

[Housing and Residential Communities Roommate Finder Home Page](http://housing.ua.edu/roommie/intro.asp)

Then you can search the other profiles and send messages to students who may be a match.

Here’s the link to the roommate finder. Housing will send you the information to set up your profile. It updates weekly (Mondays?).

I’d recommend checking roommate finder AND FB. You won’t have room selection until this spring, so now is a good time to begin looking. If you don’t find a match you can always just select an open room and go with random roommates.

You may even be fortunate enough to match with someone (or their student) here.

Good luck to you!

Sorry for the cross post with Class2012mom.:)

The Facebook page will get more active with kids looking for roomies as time goes on.

Not sure what you are asking.

1) If you are going “potluck”: Once the room has been selected you will get the email addresses and names of your new roommates.

2) If you have found folks to room with then one of you selects a room and also “pulls” the other roommate(s) in using their special code.

What worked best for me was a different group. There is a part of Facebook now where there are groups only available to A certain Universities students. You have to use your Alabama email address to initially access it. There is a very active class 2017 page. I have found all 3 of my roommates this way and gotten to know many cool people.

I tried the roommate finder today and my I wasn’t allowed to log in. I made the enrollment and housing deposits last Monday, the 24th of December, so I figured my information wasn’t in the system yet, but it still isn’t in the system today, the 2nd of January. So would that be because the university is closed over winter break? Or is there a bigger problem? Maybe my log in information is incorrect?

Yes, it’s likely because the UA was closed during that period. The UA reopened today for employees, so it shouldn’t be too long before you receive your log in information. It generally is sent on Mondays unless it has changed. You could always check with Housing.

There’s no need to panic, it is still very early in the process.

Thanks for the reassurance haha. I’ll continue to check my status over the next few days and weeks. Thanks for all the help.

Does anyone have the link to the FB page? DD has tried to get in via the link that Housing sent her in her Crimson email account, but it does not work for her. She’s really anxious to get to know some other girls so she can find roommates.

Just have her do a FB search for University of Alabama 2017

Thanks, but I’m not really that clueless, I hope! I seem to recall a protected group page that one needs to enter their Crimson email account into in order to view. A search won’t bring that up. Anybody?

btw - I said that because my son found it last night doing the FB search. I just did the search and found it.

Thanks! I did actually find that group which is not affiliated with UA. I could have sworn there was a university-made page for this purpose. Oh well. Thanks, though, for the help.

I don’t think that is the group that you use your crimson e-mail account for - my son and his prospective roommates are not listed as members, so it must be a different group. I will try to find the right link and let you know.

Try this link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/groupsatuofalabama/?from=432466836769230

I think you put in your crimson email and then can join lots of groups at UA, not just class of 17 (i.e. honors college, etc).

This group is how my S found his roommates.

Thanks, Lisa! I’m looking for the same one that Tutu13 mentions having used above and I think you’re thinking of the same one I am. You have to enter your crimson email in order to access.

Thanks, Lisa! I think we cross-posted above. That is exactly the one I was hoping for. Thanks so much!

Thanks we missed that one I will pass this along to my son!!!

Sorry I didn’t see this sooner but I wouldn’t have been of much help. I didn’t go and try to find that page Facebook showed me. I think it has to do with putting Alabama as part of your education but I’m not sure.
