You are correct with regard to the housing deposit. If a student submits the online housing cancellation form by May 1, that student will receive a full refund of his/her housing prepayment. A student who cancels the housing application between May 2 and June 1 will receive $125.00. Remember, Housing must be notified in time in order to receive this refund, not just Admissions.

Your student should have received an e-mail on Friday, January 18. This would have gone to the crimson e-mail address. Please contact Housing at 205-348-6676 if your student did not receive the e-mail.

In order to live together in the Honors community, all students have to be in the Honors College. Scholarship status does not matter. If students who are not all in Honors want to live together in a suite, they can look at Lakeside, Rvierside, or Presidential as options.

Hi Dad,
At Housing, we certainly hope it will be your son who is doing the thinking, comparing and planning for where he will live, as well as taking the responsibility for room selection :).

As your son considers his housing options, I would certainly encouarge him to talk with you about budget, as there as differences in cost, of course, among the options. He should also think about location on campus, proximity to dining, and style of residence hall. Just in case, I certainly encouarge him to have at least a couple of options in mind, since not every student is able to secure his or her first choice, and flexibility makes the process more pleasant.

Housing will not actually show the classification of other students already assigned to a room or suite. Once a student selects a space, he or she will see the name and crimson e-mail address of the other student(s) assigned there. At that point, students can reach out to each other to learn things like major, hometown, and classification.

Will the students see a layout with room numbers of each residence hall in advance? DD wants to know where each room is in relation to the laundry and/or kitchen on each floor before she makes her selection. She and one of her roommates have the April 2, 6:00 time slot, so they will be pulling in their other two roommates, but she wants to be able to go to an exact room without having to talk to her other roommates.

^^^No, there isn’t a schematic with the room numbers available that would help you choose a particular room. Each room/suite has slight variations; floor number, proximity to elevator, located on laundry floor, located on kitchen floor, storage closet or no storage closet, corner room or not. My best suggestion is to read past posts about rooms and locations and read the UA housing descriptions. Each room has a window but not every room has a view. I know in Ridgecrest South that some rooms “look” out onto a roof/wall. It does make that bedroom a little less bright.

Busyperson1, keep in mind while you may have first pick of the incoming class, the current students will be choosing their rooms before any frosh have a pick. It’s likely the most desirable rooms will have be taken by upperclassmen. That does not mean your D won’t get a good room. I just caution you not to get too particular.

Thanks for the info. She may try to see the floors when we are there for Sorority Preview day in February. She and her roommates are OOS, but they know a few people at UA.

Ridgecrest South (both towers) are co-ed by floor not by suite. Each suite will be all girls or all boys but those suites can be right next to each other.

cross posted with Bamababy :)

Ridgecrest South has five floors of suites.

Hmm, not so sure I’m excited about girl\boy on same floor\wing\etc. And I read earlier there is no pdf of the floor layouts. So when it’s time to pick a room we just see a floor and number? No idea what part of the wing it’s on? Are the rooms inside the suite pickable or is that first come first serve during move in? My D has an early selection time and was hoping to use leverage that into a room on the end of the suite.

Txdad13, I’m guessing you are the father of a daughter! Perhaps your daughter will leave near my son and his RMs who are too scared to talk to the pretty girls.

You do choose the actual room in the suite during the selection process. If you are pulling RMs in, you choose the rooms for the ones you are pulling in. If someone is pulling in your child, that person assigns the A, B, C or D room.

Anyone know how many 2 bedrooms there are in RCS? I know many upplerclassmen with first dibs will select them but wondering how many were still up for grabs last selection day?? DD and roommate both have 1st time slot, so plan is for one to look for 2BR and one to look for 4BR as a backup.

txdad, the fact that the super-suite style dorms are coed really hasn’t been an issue. It’s like living in an apartment complex. You could have guys or girls in the suite next door and it really wouldn’t matter. We were hoping to avoid co-ed dorms when we began our college search for our D but while that is what these are, it isn’t what you might picture.

Regarding pickable rooms within the suites, yes, that is what you do. You choose a suite and a room within it. In our particular suite, the four girls had already chosen to live together and they drew out of a hat for the rooms. Well, one girl did the draw for the others as they were scattered across the country.
