I just got my housing information and have received a single room. Is the price the same as as having a roommate and living in a double? Or is living in a single much more expensive? Also, what's it like living alone as compared to doubles and triples?

And is need-based financial aid a loan or just something you have to work for or just something dartmouth gives for free?

Dartmouth does not price out housing based on your living in a single, double triple, etc.

It depends; Need based aid can take the form of grant/scholarship aid, loans, work study or a combination of the 3

Also, what is the River Cluster like?

I loved living in the River - yeah it's far from things, but you get used to it, and I thought it was totally worth it for all-freshman housing. It's also probably quieter than the Choates, because it's not right next to frat row, but not too quiet. You will probably become very close to your floormates.

last year my daughter had a three room double in hinman and she had a great experience. she became very close with her floormates. she did always complain about the 'long' walk to everything from the river cluster. i did not find it to be such a long walk.

I lived in a single in the Choates this past year. For me, it was the perfect first-year experience. The Choates are all-freshman, and VERY social, so I definitely had the chance to socialize and get to know people. But the single let me have my privacy also, and ensured no roommate difficulties. People I know in quads also generally had a really good time this past year.

Sounds great

i've also been placed in a river cluster single.. does anyone have a picture of what the dorms inside are like?
