Housing Situation

Alright so I have two options and would like u guy's opinions. I need to live on campus because I dont wanna commute.

Option #1
I can either can the living room of a small apt on Strathmore with a cool rommate but I would get the only parking spot (priceless in westwood) with utilities included for $600/month $0 deposit. Shared DSL. btw though this one is pretty far from campus its strathmore but its right next to veteran by the cemetary.

Option#2
I can get a shared studio on Gayley St a block away from westwood village and two blocks away from campus for $580/month and $580 deposit no parking utilities not included all options have including this one have stoves and refrigerators.

Option #3
Stay with my Housing offer for a single in Hedrick SUmmit no parking but nice living for $900 a month with meals. Walking distance to campus.

Need to decide by sept 15. where should I live my budget is around $3000 a quarter.

If you're a freshman, i would highly suggest option 3-hedrick summit

I'm considering something similar to this too. I have a question though: we're allowed to apply for reassignment on September 29th, but is this only to change rooms or can we request to move off campus? If we cancel our contract, we're refunded all the money we paid for summit and we just pay the 100 cancellation fee, right?

I know you're not a freshman, so i guess living in the dorms might not be your first pick. But not having to worry about meals is extremely convenient. Every UCLA upperclassman that i've spoken with, my sister included, said the worst thing about living in an appartment (that was not part of UCLA housing) was having to shop for food, rather than being served. Seeing that you could afford a single Hedrick Summit room, it might be a wise choice. But it really depends on what's more important to you. My sister wanted to have the experience of living on her own her Junior year at UCLA so she moved into an appartment. Do you want to save your money? Is a parking space important to you? Do you really care about the location? Do you mind living in the dorms? Those are my thoughts :)

Yeah thats another reason for considering the apt I am 21 and even though hedrick summit is mostly 3rd year students id prefer to live "on my own." I only applied to HS as a last resort but I think the price is too much even if it is within my budget.

If you say that you need to live on-campus then why are you considering off-campus apartments as your first two choices? Seems like you're being a little half-hearted about choosing number three.

Sorry about that mix up by "on campus" I meant in or around westwood within reasonable walking distance to campus I didnt mean on campus housing. But I just got back from seeing the actual places Im considering and Im going with option #1 my roomate is kickass he offered to cover the internet and electricity bill and even cut my first month's rent in half because he said it wasnt fair I take the living room which is actually bigger than his room. I dunno I feel that I should cover some of those costs but he really insisted saying he leaves his lights and computer on all night so that its only fair. I think I lucked out on this one.

Congratulations on ending up with such a fair roommate...

How is the rent situation around ucla? Can you find something around $500 within walking distance of the cafeterias?

That's how I lived back in college. I had something that was $450, and I just bought a meal plan. Luckily the food quality improved, and I didn't have to worry about cooking.

with less than four roomates...doubt it in westwood.
