Housing Situations

Hey there,

Does anybody know how housing works for Columbia, Brown, and Yale transfer students? Do you end up living with other transfers? Do you get the worst dorms on campus? And do these schools help integrate transfers into campus life?

At Y you are assigned a residential college for your entire stay on campus. You generally live in a suite with non-transfer students. There are relatively few transfers each year, and they are placed in whichever residential colleges have open spaces.

Y has FOCUS, an essentially free program the week before school starts in the fall that both sophomores and transfer students can attend. The goal is to get to know other students, learn more about New Haven and participate in community service projects. Other than that, there don’t seem to be many other transfer specific programs, but the transfers do tend to know each other.
