I just got into UT Liberal Arts Honors and though I am seriously considering going to UT, I am waiting to hear back from 9 schools in April. Everyone has started panicking me about applying for housing, but you can’t do preferences until you have accepted your offer and put down the deposit. I want to live in one of the honors dorms, but am worried they will all get taken!!! Can I wait until April to deal with housing or will I really be screwed by then??? If I accept UT’s offer to do preferences, can I later decline??? AHHHHHHHH HELP
Why don’t you call either the Admission Office or the Housing Office at UT and ask? I’m sure that yours is a very common question. Congratulations by the way!
Hey!!! There is NOOO need to worry. Housing is only sent out in March 1st and only after that is satisfied can you choose your preferred housing. Have you done your housing application? I am going to be in Plan II and I’m doing the exact same thing, I’m sure many people are as well! The contract timing is based on when you submitted the application NOT when you deposited $$.
@pinkzebra1234 - Congrats!
You need to go ahead and apply for housing & pay the $50 application fee. Have you done that? That gets you ‘in line’ for housing. If you decide not to go to UT you won’t get the $50 back but, you just have to view it as part of the process of apply to schools.
If you decide on UT- after you accept you will pay a $300 deposit & make your choices.
The sooner you pay the $50 the better likelihood you will be in the quad. (DS lived there for 2 years & loved it)
Quote from UT Housing:
“Make your residence hall, roommate, and bath choices by June 1. Go to your Housing Portal page and update your preferences. You can edit or update your preferences as many times as you’d like up until June 1. It never affects your housing application priority date.”
This shows basically everything is based on the actual application!
