do they really matter?

Not significantly, if you’re in middle, I would try to apply for Phase III’s or get the halls with elevators (Balin, Harrowdale, not sure which else do)

From what I know, halls do many things that are similar, just a couple different events that actually touch with themes.

Oh ok, thanks!
which themes would be in Phase III?

Here: [UC Irvine Student Housing - Prospective Student - Residence Hall Themes](http://www.housing.uci.edu/prospective/rhtheme.asp) and [UC Irvine Student Housing - Middle Earth - Hall History](http://www.housing.uci.edu/me/hall_Desc.asp)

Crickhollow, Evenstar, Oakenshield, Valimar

I believe Oakenshield is all-female hall.

So for the themes, I guess put down Intellectual competence, involvement in civic & campus life, interpersonal relationships, and personal identity & philosophy.

Keep in mind that there is a minor chance you will get a phase III, as only 4 out of the 24 halls are phase III.
