Housing tips

Since the annual frightfest, er, Housing Lottery will be coming up in the next month or so, I thought it might be good to post your tips regarding current living conditions.

If you are in a dorm, suite, apartment, or even off-campus housing, post your comments here, good or bad.

Also post your observations, tips, etc, on the entire lottery process here.

Silvers: They did a nice renovation on the surface, but there are some problems there as well.

There is new flooring (tile), paint, kitchen cabinets and appliances, but it all covers an aging infrastructure. One A/C unit (ancient) was dripping on the floor on move-in day, and at one point, none of the A/C was working in the entire building. Housing eventually came and replaced the unit upon request, but it didn’t seem to work after that. Luckily, autumn arrived :/

There seems to be drainage issues from the gutters (clogged?) on some of the buildings. One window was actually rotting and full of black mold, which they covered up with paint and a tube or 3 of spackle.

I suggest that if you might live here, (or any place, really) you physically go into some of the units and see what’s going on.

What, no one has anything to say about their current housing? There’s got to be something.
