Housing Troubles

I am an out-of-state student who got accepted to FSU and I am having a hard time choosing a residence hall. I am looking for a suite-style room with decent space and am considering Salley Hall but I want to know the pros and cons before I commit. Is Salley Hall a good residence hall or is there a better choice?

Are you a freshman?

I will be a freshman in Fall 2010

I suggest an east-side dorm. You’ll have to buy a meal plan, but you’ll have more fun.

Landis
Gilchrist
Broward
Reynolds
Jennie Murphree

Which would be better for a freshman, Wildwood or DeGraff? I want to get a fellow freshman roommate and those are the two I’ve decided upon.

Wildwood & Degaff are basically the same layout/room wise. The main difference will be location. Degraff is pretty close to the union area but you have to cross Tennessee to get to it. There is an underground walking tunnel, but someone recently got robbed there. Wildwood is basically in the center of campus but really isn’t extremely close to anything but the gym and SLC.

All the halls on the east side are pretty nice besides dorman and deviney. I woudn’t suggest reynolds if you mind construction noise outside your window at 8am (depending on room location). lol The east side is like its own little community, and all the halls are connected.

As for salley I know a lot of people that hate and love it. The rooms themselves are really small and you’re limited to how you can arrange them. It’s kind of cool though how there is a study/common room. Keep in mind that it is an older dorm.

*btw my priority # was in the 5000’s (I was pretty lucky to even get a dorm) lol

Thanks; Wildwood it is!

I live in Salley now and like it. The rooms areeeeee really small. You can’t unbunk your beds. But unless you’re claustrophobic, you will get used to it.

Yeah I picked Gilchrist, Broward, Reynolds, or Wildwood. I heard those are the nicest! I know some people who live in Gilchrist so I’ve been there before…it is super nice!

Do not pick salley, and wildwood is nice. BUT if i were you i’d choose DeGraff, its the exact same floorplan, brand new and its closer to everything. Wildwood is only close to the SLC and gym, other than that its far from everything, very far.
