Housing: Units

Which unit is closest to campus? I feel like i've heard either unit 1 or unit 3...which one is it? Thanks!

3.

1 isn’t too far away, but 3 is like bam: dwinelle + others.

Well unit 3 and 1 are on the same street so they are technically the same distance to campus, HOWEVER unit 3 is much closer to the central campus (Dwinelle, ASUC, Sproul) while Unit 1 is close too places such as Hearst Gym and the tennis court, which usually don’t have classes or campus activities.

Technically, Unit 1 and 3 are equidistant from campus if we consider the coundaries of campus to be simply defined as the opposite side of Bancroft of the Units. If we’re discussing which Unit is closer to classes, then that varies from person to person. Unit 3, for example, would put me the fartherest distance from most of my classes (except for Clark Kerr perhaps).

3 is the best for dwinelle 8ams!!

What about if I’m in the College of Chem so i’m assuming most of the classes will be around there? Is unit 3 still the closest?

nope. then foothill would be closest.

<1.5 minute walk FTW. hahaha

I loved waking up at 9 am and then getting to chem by 905. (multi-tasker in the broom =D)

I don’t want to live in foothill though. So is unit 3 still the closest of the units to the science classes?

Which dorm is closest to CS classes?

^ foothill

I’m not sure if I’m interested in Foothill since it’s so expensive. Bowles doesn’t work for me since I’m a girl, but how is Stern? Not too much a fan of an all girl dorm though so I don’t know if I’d want to live there. Would walking from the Units be too tiring? And does anyone know how much harder/easier it is to get housing at Foothill/Stern vs. the Units due to popularity?

Leftist: Depends where you live. La Loma vs Bowles…yea I’d see Bowles kids getting to Pimentel quicker, but I am like 90% sure that living in building 8 (and even 7 probably) of Hillside will always beat Bowles to Pimentel. And really, pushing a handle to a gate isn’t going to hinder your speed whatsoever.

Bulb: It’s not tiring so much as time consuming haha. You’re gonna end up walking to most places around campus unless you bring a bike or something. And because dorms are assigned randomly, getting into Foothill/Stern/CKC is nearly the same as Units. (But I wouldn’t say complete 50-50)

I lived in Bowles through Upward Bound (a high school summer residential program) and lived on the 7th floor. God I hated walking down those staircases PLUS the ones that lead from the front door of Bowles to the streets T_T. Building looks like Hogwarts though :].

Out of the three units… which is most popular? Which dorm is the most fun? Which is the most studious or relaxed? Can anyone give a brief idea of each of the three? THANKS!

Once you’re in the units, it’s not about what building etc you’re in, just the random draw of people that you live near.
