Housing waitlist update

I talked to the residences department on friday and was told by the staff that the waitlist will not be used until march of 2010 because their main focus is to remove people from triples and there will be a lot of realocations to the west apartments in the process.

If anyone has been told differently let me know. This really blows because I was kind of high up and was hopeful about getting in, but from what I hear, you can forget about getting housing in the fall.

That sounds right regarding the waitlist…

I wouldn’t really be “Blowed”…Stony Brook is light years from having good dorms. Find an off-campus apartment or something. It will certainly be better than the dorms here and you won’t have to have an unnecessary invasion of privacy when the RA’s go to check your dorm once a month or so, in addition to regular power outages, engineering faults, a decades old electrical and water system that is clogged up by idiots throwing plenty of food down the sink and more idiots waking you up at random times in the night with their loud noise…

I have lived both off campus and on campus. I do agree that the dorms are despicable, but I applied to the west dorms, which are somewhat better. I was hopeful about getting in and now I am stuck in my old off campus place, which involves a commute. It is tough because signing a new lease would not be viable since I am alreay in a lease and paying a new deposit plus losing my current deposit would put me in a very tight situation.

I knew getting in the dorms would be impossible, but I had no idea the west list would not be used at all!

Also, I have seen the off campus life situation and it is not ideal either. House shares are a mess and good rooms are tough to find. They both suck, but since I am active on campus, there is no match to living right in there.

So, even for those that are 1 or 2 in the list, I would not expect much at all.
