Housing Waitlist?

Im not sure if this has been asked before, but Im pretty worried. I applied to FSU a week short of the deadline and accepted my admission moderately late as well (I couldnt decide between FSU or Clemson). So, as a result, im on the housing waitlist. Im worried that I wont get housing, since school starts in three weeks or so. Everytime I call, someone else tells me that Ill in most likelyhood get housing, just later. Has this happened to anyone else, and should I start looking for Off-CAmpus housing? I really like to stay on campus if i could help it.

yeah, i have some friends who didnt get housing, they went off campus. When they say "later", they might mean like, next semester. You might want to get that clarified....

From my previous post for waitlisted Aubrey.
I would definitely check these options out in case you don't have a place to live on-campus before school starts:

Private Residence Halls
Looking for a traditional residence hall environment? Seminole Oaks (1.866.301.6856) http://www.seminoleoaks.com/, Southgate (1.800.444.2414) http://www.southgatecampusctr.com/, and Osceola Hall (1.888.999.1621) http://www.boothliving.com/ovillage/ are located in close proximity to campus, but are not owned by FSU. In addition to shared dormitory-style rooms, most also offer apartment-style living. With their own dining facilities and residence hall staff, these offer a similar experience to on-campus living.

There are also nearby luxury apartments designed for students such as: http://www.boardwalkfsu.net/apartments.html

The SGA has an off-campus housing information web site too:
http://www.fsu.edu/~sga/och/

GOOD LUCK!

Teaching points for others:

Apply to FSU early; even if you're not sure.

The moment you're accepted (check online the first minute of the day admissions info is released), go to the FSU Housing website and apply that instant for housing.

Good luck.

Thanks for your help everyone. I got put in Rogers Hall temporarily, until they have a dorm for me. Thats kinda wierd though. Rogers is an apartment complex for grad students thats better than most dorm rooms. Guess I got lucky

Wow! You are really lucky! You will be spoiled after having such nice accomodations.

They contacted my son last week and asked him if he wanted to move to a triple in Cawthon for more money than his double in Deviney. This did not seem like any improvement at all. Your situation sounds great.

Less than a week to go....

cybermom, if my daughter got that offer we'd take it. Cawthon is in much better condition than Deviney.

This was his choice.

If you were a former football/wrestler guy, you would choose the hall bathroom that is cleaned Monday - Friday. Also, he thinks his current roommate will be compatible to him and he much prefers a double over a triple. Lastly, the hall dorms are "free" with the prepaid plan. If it had been a single or double, he would have definitely considered it. They don't say "three [in a room] is a crowd" for nothing.

Guys are not that worried about the "pretty", suite style dorm. I am sure the hall dorms are a bit "aged" but the social aspects of the old-fashioned hall style are conducive to making friends as a freshmen more than the suites. I did remind him that Deviney has limited access, where Cawthon has self-regulated access but that did not seem to phase him.

During orientation, our leader was absolutely wild about Smith Hall. The rooms there are very small and it appears to be very old as the bricks were falling off the sides of the building and were being repaired. She just absolutely loved the social aspect of the building.

I hope he is satisfied with his choice. We shall see...

I understand. The difference between girls and boys is clear in some areas. We'll be at FSU Saturday morning moving our girls in. We'll have to be at two places at once...with the freshman in Reynolds and the junior/senior moving into New Hall.

When my wife and I attended Florida State we were both in apartments long before junior year. But this was when the dorms did not have AC and only a few pay phones.

How times have changed...

It's curious about Smith Hall - it used to be the dorm to avoid, but kids have written and said they enjoy the heck out of it.

How bad is the traffic going up the FL turnpike on Saturday and returning Sunday? Is there a better time to go?

Is it difficult to get into New Hall as a sophomore? We prepaid for 2 years of dorm and I think my son will want to move into the nicer apartment style facilities his sophomore year after he has established his friends and activities.

We don't live in SE Florida, so don't go that way. From memory, though, as long as you get out of Palm Beach county early (before 9 AM) you should have a fairly easy drive to I-75. The TP is better than I-95.

It will still be about 7-8 hours of driving...each way, as my wife is from the FTL area. But that was before the speed limit was 70, so it may be less now. We also get off I-75 at Ocala and take US-27 to Tallahassee. It's more interesting than I-75 to us, and shorter.

My daughters have extremely low priority numbers so it was easy to get the dorms they wanted. New Hall was no problem. The older one lived in Gilchrist for 2 years.

We always re-clean the dorm room (ourselves) before moving the girls in, so we like to be early. It's impossible when the room's full of stuff.
