I was a bit late trying to sign up for housing, so I was put on the waitlist and applied on May 1st. I was wondering what's the chances of me getting into on campus housing in the fall 09 semester. Also I have 2 friends and they already submitted theirs in. They might be willing to let me triple with them until I get my own housing later on. I cannot commute. Any help?

I don’t think we know yet. Do you know where you are on the waitlist? Are you an incoming student or a current student?

Chris

Residence Hall Single : 126

Residence Hall Double : 124

West Apartment Single : 118

Does look a bit bad.

Also I’m a current student going on sophomore year during the fall semester.

Yeah, a friend was in position 180 something this year and it took him about 9 months to get through. He finally got it midway through the semester, so don’t count on it.

So what would be a good way to get housing, don’t have a car and don’t know how the off campus thing works. May triple with my friends if the let me and if I can.

Maybe you can help me too, Chris.

Residence Hall Single : 4

Residence Hall Double : 3

West Apartment Single : 2

West Apartment Double : 2

I’d really like to get a residence hall over an apartment, any idea if I could get either? If you don’t have any idea, do you know when you will?

wow looks like you signed up very early. When did you sign up? and what are you next semester?

I was curious about the triple thing myself. I guess it is easier to get detripled than to wait for the waitlist. I am almost sure that tripling is only for freshmen though. If you give them a call on monday, please let me know what they say about it.

I have no pull over the housing waitlist at all. I’m not even sure exactly how it works, and how the priority would go between the different options.

Chris

Update for you guys:

I talked to some woman from the housing department on Friday, she said she wouldn’t even begin to start looking at the wait list till fall semester has already started. Their main priority is detripiling. This is for the residence halls, not for apartments.

Kinda sucks, was really hoping I’d make it in this semester.

There’s no chance in hell you’re getting into a regular dorm before spring semester, even with your awesome spot on the waiting list, unless the situation with tripling changes drastically from what they’re expecting next year. It’s unfortunate, but it makes sense that they won’t go to the waiting list until everyone is detripled. Apartments are another story since they can’t detriple freshmen into those spots, and that’s how you might have a shot of getting on campus for the beginning of the fall semester. There are always going to be a few people who decide over the summer not to live on campus after all.

Yeah, that sucks. I also talked to her and I guess we will know where we stand somewhere at the end of august. Getting in a regular dorm will be next to impossible since the majority of freshmen will still be tripled.

According to te calendar, August 15th is the last day to cancel fall housing so that is when they will know how many people will stay.

Residence Hall Single : 3

Residence Hall Double : 3

If you look at my previous post my “Residence Hall Single” used to be 4, could this mean they’ve started using the wait list?

I don’t think so. Mine used to be 23, was 22 for a day, and today is back to 23again. It is just that some people might be updating their preferences and this affects our positions. I talked to the director and he said they don’t expect to use the waitlist until march of 2010 based on previous years.

Update for you guys, I just received an email saying there’s a room available for me, I was 3rd on the wait list.

I was notified that there was a room available for me as well. I don;t know what to do know, I already told my landlord that I would be staying here for next semester. On the email, they didn;t really specify what type of room I was offered. Prog, what are you going to do?

fraisifrasi, I notified them about accepting the room yesterday and received an email today with my dorm info, I’m assigned to H Quad. Maybe you can email them and ask them what room would be assigned to you if you wanted to accept?

Yes, I did that, but I will definitely call in monday to confirm as well. Honestly, living in the dorm would not be an option because I really don’t like stony’s food and it is a total rip off. I called the guy and he said they wouldn’t use the waitlist until march, so I had to make a decision before that otherwise I could have been homeless. If I did indeed get a room in west, I will have a very tough decision ahead of me. My landlord won’t be pleased at all.

Have fun in the dorms, it is definitely worth it to be inside of the university.

Wow, this is really surprising. Congrats to those who got off the housing waiting list, but it’s too bad people didn’t have more notice. I wonder what happened now to change all of their estimates? I suppose maybe they decided to prioritize the waiting list over detripling for spots that opened up before the semester started. Interesting.

Pseudonym, are you in the dorms as well?

Yeah, this is both really amazing and puzzling for me. I mean, being inside of the university is great, specially if it is in the west apartments. But it also is very darn expensive and you really never know what you are going to get roomate wise. After all this time, living off campus has seemed very much like a hassle, but I honestly don;t know what to do at this point. Ugh!!
