Housing: Which dorm???

Anyone think that there's any chance thhat I could get a dorm at West Wing or Morewood E. Is anyone thinking about choose Homershlag(spelling)? Oh and is it true that Donner smells?

Try for Morewood E, New House, Donner, or Mudge. You will almost certainly not get West Wing.

I don't think anyone actually chooses to live in Hamerschlag, though it's not that bad depending on how optimistic you are...

Donner did smell really bad in the past (on the outside). There's actually a facebook group called "Donner Smells." It hasn't smelled since last fall, but I wouldn't guarantee it not smelling after the summer...

Why does it smell, do Donner residents have a tradition of not showering or something?

There is an allegedly broken dumpster in the driveway behind the building that the indian food place in Resnik dumps its trash into. I haven't smelled the Donner smell in a long time now, so it might have been fixed. I like to think of it as a mystery.

I think I'm going to apply for New House as 1st choice....maybe Morewood E. I really have to do more research though.

If my friend is SHS and I'm just regular MCS, can I still room with him in NH?

if you optionally put someone, yah you can. They try to group by major, I think, but major is not the end all be all. What is more important is your habits that you have... like smoking/partying in the dorm.

Is it almost certain that a SHS student would get a dorm in NH?

What dorm you get only really depends on when you filed your deposit mate. SHS would not be a reason to stop peopel from getting their dorm of choice

I mean, what if an SHS student wanted to live in NH? CMU received my deposit a few days before April 12th, by the way.

You would have a harder time to get into NH, simply because your deposit was turned in after many others. But your being SHS shouldn't effect your chances mate. :)

New House has really small rooms, so E Tower is better, at least in my opinion.

SHS could affect your chances, but just put down what you want. I know that CMU grouped all the BHA (humanties/arts) girls on my floor last year (E tower). However, I don't know if they do this for SHS. (There was only one guy in BHA, and he was someplace in Morewood A-D.)

Edit:
I just looked it up, and they do put all SHS people who opt to live together in New House. Thus, if you want to be there and you told SHS you want to be, I would assume you will live there.

i believe the best idea is to find the crummiest dormitory to live at your freshman year. then you are kind of forced to go out, meet other people and join student organizations :)

Hello all,

I am going to be an RA in New House next year (and will be a jr.), lived in E-tower my first year, and know a lot about other dormitories. I can honestly say that while New House has slightly smaller rooms in comparision to other dormitory rooms, it has excellent common areas/facilities, a very active community, a great staff, and just a great feel. You might think that room size is a huge issue, but are you coming to college so that you can sit in your room or go out to meet new poeple and to make friends? Definitely put E-tower as your second choice. The rooms are bigger, but the floors are definitely more segregated than in NH. As between Donner and 'schlag, it's a toss up. Mudge also has four first year floors, although the walk is longer and it doesn't have lounge spaces.

Good luck with your decision.

E-mail me at capugh at gmail.com if you have any questions.

I like the facilities and everything but I don't want to be in a "party dorm."I'm not anti-social or anything like that but my main goal is to focus on my studies, would that make a bad fit for New House?
