Housing

Can someone explain the housing better than the website? What are the buildings near, what's the environment around it, etc.

Also, where does everybody want to live AND WHY?

I know I wanna live in Lake Claire. Even though it’s far away from everything, I like that it’s all freshman apartments and its by a lake. I’m one of those girls who hog up the bathroom and I like my own space (I have a boyfriend so we’ll want our privacy, obviously) I couldn’t imange sharing a bathroom with 4 other girls and then living two feet from someone else. I need my own room. I also love cooking so I like that I can cook my own meals if I want. I’ll be taking classes at Rosen anyways, so it’s not like I’ll be walking from class to my apartment back to another class. But if I could I would love to live in the Nike apartments, but they’re for upperclassmen.

I’m pretty sure Nike & Hercules are for freshmen (: That’s where I want to live! I haven’t look at Lake Claire yet though…
When are you going, summer or fall?

I like Nike, but I’m living in the residence halls because I can’t cook I might switch to Apollo though because it’s a lot closer to the buildings which means more sleep<3

I liked Libra (L-shaped dorm, they have two styles) <3 Nike’s for freshman and is nice but kindof far. They say Lake Claire is really hard to get (high demand). If you go to this website :http://www.housing.ucf.edu/choices/</a> you can look through the different housing choices and see videos (video tour) and descriptions and all that about them. It also tells which year students the dorms are for which will clear up any confusion.

Nike apartments are for upperclassmen.

As far as full apartments on campus for freshmen, your only choices are between Lake Claire and Towers, which is pricey. Nike/Hercules are for both freshmen and upper classmen. However, freshmen can only live in residence hall style buildings while the apartment buildings are only for upperclassmen and residents are selected through a lottery system instead of first come first served.

Based on prior experience, my S lived at Lake Claire as a freshman. The units are 4 bed./2 bath, so you only share a bathroom with one other person. The sinks are in a central area - 2 sinks - and a vanity with four drawers - so each person in the apt. has their own space. Lake Claire is centrally located and an easy walk to most freshman classes. Rosen is a separate campus that requires a car for the commute - approx. 15 min. away. The campus is set up in concentric circles - with the union in the center. On a clock - Lake Claire is roughly at #10. The Nike/Hercules area is at #6 - and it is close to the pool and recreation bldg. Nike/Hercules is also set up as an apt. - with 4 bed./2 baths - and it is newer than Lake Claire - but it could be a longer walk to the central part of the campus by roughly 5 min. The closest food area for meal plan students is the marketplace. On the other hand - Lake Claire is pretty much equidistant to the marketplace and knightros (by the Towers). Freshman also live in Towers and their are 4 bed./2 bath options as well as 4/4. The Towers contract is 11 mos., while Lake Claire and Nike/Hercules are for 2 semesters. Towers is the most expensive and students should plan to take classes in the summer as you are paying for the dorm. The other dorm areas (Apollo, Libra, etc.) are typical dorm-style (not suite) and do not have apt.-style kitchens (for those who like to cook). Towers has a dishwasher; Lake Claire does not. Towers also has a full-size bed; Lake Claire and all the other dorms have twin XL. Parking is also another consideration. Lake Claire has its own lot - as does Towers (parking is in garages) - the other dorms have a more centralized parking area.

Theres a bus that goes to Rosen, I don’t really want a car with me (considering I’d probably get lost) and if I really need one I’ll just steal my boyfriends (awesome girlfriend right?)
