So in order to apply for housing, do we have to wait for an email? Or am I missing something on the website.

They changed housing deposit policy slightly from last year. NYU Housing is supposed to contact you for the $1000? housing deposit.

Last year, that was included in the paperwork sent in the Acceptance Offer package. Tuition ($300) and Housing ($500) deposits returned by May 1, I think. Then another $1000 HOUSING RESERVATION FEE due by 6/1, I think? . However, Housing deposit may now have gotten separated from the Tuition deposit and it is now $1000 instead of $1500 total? Maybe an ED student can respond to this.

Anyway, it appears you now have to submit the $1000? Housing deposit (separate from the tuition deposit) by a certain deadline. (Is the Housing total $1000 this year vs. $1500 last year?) Then a certain amount of time will elapse and you will receive an online housing application and roommate preference survey, which you have to fill out by a certain deadline (but I recommend submitting ASAP if you want a greater chance of getting your top dorm choice).

Then for RD students, you will get housing assignments early August or late July (forget when exactly but later in the summer).

How I understand the housing process right now is that ED students will get packets sometime in the next few weeks, and RD students get them after the ED students (but not sure when.)

As for the deposit question, we only had to pay $500 to reserve a spot to be in the class of 2015, no housing deposit in sight. So I’m assuming that the housing deposit/reservation fees are possibly combined this year.

All in all… I’m pretty confused right now. haha.

OK, As to students newly accepted by NYU on 3/25/11, this is what NYU has on the Admission website following the announcement that email notification of NYU decisions for acceptance or rejection of an application had been brought forward a week (3/25/11) to reduce the anxiety of applicants (yay for NYU) :

“Students admitted will also be mailed a packet of materials about housing and next steps.”

I e-mailed Operations in December and they told me that the housing application is separate from the enrollment, and that they would be in touch after “processing” my request. So, no, they aren’t combined. I can’t remember where I saw it, but the deposit is supposed to be $1000.

Alright awesome, so I’ll (we’ll) just wait until NYU contacts me (us).

It was always 800.00 due May 1st with your acceptance of offer of admission. 300.00 for tuition and 500.00 for housing. Then another 1000.00 due for housing either June or July 1 for guaranteed housing. I don’t think it has changed much over the years.

milkandsugar,

Apparently NYU has changed the policy as of this year with the ED I admits. I got wind of this when ED I admits started posting their questions about deposits late 2010 after getting their decisions.

This is as per my information and understanding.

The housing deposit is $1000 which is due on 1 June. This is separate from $500 acceptance deposit which all ED students have already paid cause their deadline was March 15. The room assignment is scheduled for in first week of August.

The $500 acceptance deposit for RD is 1 May and housing deposit shall follow once EDs are done with.
