<p>I have been accepted to Auburn for fall 2012 but I am still deciding between AU and FSU, I have my housing deposit down at FSU only because the penalty for not going is only $50.</p>
<p>If I sign a housing agreement at AU and back out on it before the deadline, do I get some money back?</p>

<p>You’ll have to pay a $50.00 housing application fee, as well as a REFUNDABLE $250.00 fee. If you decide to go to FSU, you’ll only be out $50.00.</p>
<p>Your housing choice is all going to depend on what sort of arrangement you’re interested in – The newest halls are in the Village, but the closest halls to classes are in the Quad. More freshmen live within the Hill dorm complex, and the parking is better for these halls. You’ll also need to consider if you want to share a room, or if you would rather have your own room (as in the suites). There are also learning communities, and honors halls, so check out the AU housing website and consider the possibilities.</p>
<p>Auburn also requires you to pay the admission fee prior to the housing fee - $250 (?), non-refundable. FSU does not require the admission fee prior to the housing fee.</p>

<p>Your enrollment confirmation ($200 – just looked on the AU site) is non-refundable. I didn’t mention the enrollment deposit before because I assumed you might already be aware of the non-refundable aspect of that fee. Sorry about that! AU requires that you pay the enrollment confirmation before you can apply for housing. The housing application costs $50.00 and is non-refundable. The housing deposit ($250) is refundable. If you decide not to go to AU, you will be out a total of $250.00 (enrollment + housing app.)</p>
<p>My D has not placed housing deposit because is still trying to decide where to go. she is very interested in AU, but there is a waiting list now for housing. I am worried about being a freshman off campus and not being able to get easily involved on campus, especially being out of town. is this a true issue, or are there so many freshman living off campus. How likely are you to get housing on campus if you are on a waiting list?</p>
<p>Well, it’s going to depend on where you are on the list. The list does move, but it is tough to get a spot once on the list. I can offer you two scenarios:</p>
<p>My D has a friend who got on the list early (but was still in the “one hundreds”) She did move up and got into the thirties, but ultimately never got a spot. She was pretty worried going into late spring about where she was going to live. However, she ultimately decided to live in the private residence hall that’s next to the AU Hotel (I think it’s called Cambridge). They placed her with a roommate, and they provide some sort of food service component as well (though you will still be required by AU to purchase the minimum level food plan for off-campus residents). Cambridge is really close to campus, so she never feels as though she’s not part of on-campus activities. </p>
<p>Another gal D knew waited until Camp War Eagle to figure out where she was going to live (they didn’t even bother getting on the wait list, since they decided on AU late in the process). I don’t know if I would recommend waiting this long to figure out your housing, but it did work out for this student (she found roommates and apartment at a complex). At the end of Camp War Eagle, there’s a “housing and business fair” in the student center where you can get info on various apartment complexes and private halls. There are a lot of off-campus options, so even if the waiting list doesn’t work out, you should be able to secure living arrangements. The tiger transit shuttle stops at all major apartment complexes, so getting to campus and staying involved is certainly possible.</p>

<p>ohiomom…when my son applied to au…the off campus housing was one of the big attractions for him… alot of his friends were off campus and felt the transportation provided was great… the areas he looked at appeared to be very safe, and full of students with alot going on. he didnt think he would miss anything by being off campus. admittedly he had lived at a boarding school for 3 years and was ready to get out of a dorm situation.</p>
<p>Thank you all so much for the information! I just went down and visited Auburn and explored my housing options. It looks as though Cambridge is where I will end up because it is much cheaper than on campus and on campus has the waiting list.</p>
<p>However I don’t want to live at Cambridge if it is a “weird” thing to do, or in some way a lesser option than living on campus!</p>

<p>You can’t get the $50.00 application fee back, but the housing deposit ($250.00) IS refundable.
I think there are two other private residence halls available, if you are interested in dormatory-style housing. These are within walking distance of campus.

<p>If you are looking for brand new apartments with many amenities, a new apartment complex is coming into Auburn. It is called the Grove. It should be finished by this July and they are taking deposits now. It is probably a little more costly, but they will be fully furnished, with many extras. Check it out here:</p>

<p>As you can see, there are many. On the final day of CWE, there’s a business fair where many of the housing complexes have a representative present to answer questions, discuss availability, etc.</p>
<p>Don’t live at Cambridge. You can get a better deal elsewhere. It’s expensive for a single room with a shared bath, the food is AWFUL, and the AC doesn’t always work…big problem in this southern climate. Management stinks too.
There aren’t enough washers/dryers for the number of residents. Our water has been on and off in August. Maintenance is questionable.</p>
