Housing

For an incoming Freshman coming from OOS...not knowing the area at all, Would you recommend the Engineering Living Learning Village in Metcalf for an Engineering Student?

If you prefer an on campus dorm, which would be the best 1,2,3 choice for a Freshman, best location, etc...

If you prefer off campus housing for Freshman, what would be the best place and why?
Anything close to campus, for Freshman that is close to a fun area as well?

Coming from OOS, I am lost as to where to start with housing. Will take any advice for the best place for Freshman Engineering Student that wants to meet people and get involved. Thank you for any info you can throw my way!

The Engineering Living and Learning Village is new this year. Metcalf is a good central campus location. My son is next door in Bowen. The rooms are small, but he has enjoyed himself there and is glad to be on central campus. When he put in his housing request his choices were Bowen, Metcalf, and Carroll. He had put in his housing request in December last year, right after he was accepted, and got his first choice. Some of his friends who put in their central campus request later in the year, ended up elsewhere on campus. Maybe requesting the Engineering Living and Learning Village will help get the central campus location? I wouldn’t recommend living off campus as a freshman, especially one from out of state.

You may want to check out Scholars Community in Sullivan Hall if freshmen involvement is what you are looking for.

For DS- almost certain he is going to NCSU the question is Honors Housing in the quad for an engineering student or New Engineering Living Learning Community in Metcalf for Honors/Engineering student?

collegenfo…Definitely live on campus. Anyplace on campus would be better than off campus for an OOS freshman. Central campus is home to lots of freshman.Bowen,Carroll,Metcalf or Tucker / Owen if you’re in First Year College.

3BOYS…I would say Metcalf. When my S lived on campus, he lived on Central campus and loved it…Would not have wanted to be anywhere else. Central is the easiest walk to class and so close to Carmichal gym (my S’s second home at NCSU) if that interests your son.

Whatever you choose, avoid Wood, North and Avent-Ferry…too isolated from the rest of the dorms for a freshman.

Thanks Packmom! Waiting on Fin Aid package still but Metcalf sounds like a good fit. Got it narrowed down to 2 schools both oos. Affordability will be the deciding factor.
