Hi guys, this is probably really early considering I haven't even committed, but I am trying to decide which dorm I would like to live in if I enroll next year. Partly this is just a procrastination tool, but partly I also want to have some final choices so that maybe I can check them out when I visit and see! Right now I am looking into a sub-free dorm most likely. I am not anti-drugs or anything and I definitely will go to some parties, but I want to be able to choose when to be around drugs and alcohol and thus would prefer a living environment that is pretty much substance free (I know 100% sub-free is rare if not impossible). So anyway, I want to be relatively close to academic buildings, but especially the library and student center. The problem is, I am also an athlete so south end seems a little far! So I was thinking at this point that I'm probably between Kershaw and Smith, if anyone could help with this choice! Also, I just want to make sure that sub-free is not seen as "nun housing" or extreme geeks or anything. I still want fun and loudness to be ok at times!! If it is a bit on the constant studying side of things, is there an unofficial "lower-sub" house I could look at? Thanks!

Sorry guys, I can’t figure out how to delete my above post, but I’ve decided that I’m actually open to non sub-free housing as long as it has a reputation that is not party-dorm. I am thinking that east-side is probably it for me then, as it seems to be located the best and the dorms seem newer and nicer. If not east, then north. Lazier looks like a good possibility, but I’m worried the east dorms will be more isolated as opposed to all of the dorms together on the north side. Basically, I am looking for something in the north/east side without a party rep- any suggestions or opinions? Thanks!

All of East is usually quiet and usually antisocial as well. Not ever having lived on east I can’t speak about floor communities but my general impression is that you go to East if you want your room to sleep and hang out with friends who’ve made elsewhere.

On North it depends by dorm and people living there, Smith is actually jokingly referred to as the nunnery from time to time so there is that. Langan or Rawson would probably not be your worst options if you want no partying. Norris could also be an option.

It depends a lot on the floor you end up with. Sometimes you are lucky sometimes you are not.
