I was recently admitted to PSU and I'm thinking of going.

I have a friend in the same situation with Wisconsin, and he found out about this special private housing that you have to apply for before you even decide if you're definitely going to the school. Is there anything similar at Penn State? I would want to apply soon so I don't get closed out.

Rumor has it that Penn STate has a serious on-campus housing shortage next fall. Freshman are guaranteed housing, but the last ones to commit likely get "overflow" housing, which could mean being housed in study lounges with 2 or 3 other kids. Send in your dorm contract and deposit as soon as you're sure you're going.

send your answer in as soon as you know. chances are youll be roomed with up to 7 other peopel if you dont. i go to penn state now and live in a supplemental room of 8. ive gotten used to it and actually really love it in here but it's a complete bummer to find out youll have to live with so many other people. do not wait to send it back if you know penn state is where you want to go to

Schreyer students have special housing - but you don't have to accept it if you want to live somewhere else. I believe the Schreyer dorms are Atherton and Simmons. Some dorms have "interest houses" a floor or group of rooms for students of particular majors, colleges, sororities, etc. If you go with Schreyer housing, I don't think there's a problem. If you don't, then I think I recall that you will elect on your dorm contract to rank your preferences - specific roommate, interest house, dorm, etc. They try to give you your first preference, if they can't, they move to the second. The longer you wait to send in your contract, the less chance of getting your first preference.

The North Halls for instance was just remodeled and it is fantastic. Everything's new--the bed, the mattresses & carpeting, the furniture, and combo fridge/micro. They are 4-person suites with a 2-person room on each side and a common area & bath in the middle. All the latest fire alarm/sprinkler stuff. The bathroom is also very nice with a separate drawer for each person and again everything NEW. Have to say I even got envious when I saw the laundry facilities and the fully equipped kitchen available to students. Nicer than mine.

Yes, Taramom, the new suites in North Halls are very nice. DD was in North last year and wanted to switch to the new suites, but we told her she'd have to come up with the increase in price from a regular double room. She elected to move to West Halls and seems very happy there as well. Wants to move off-campus next year. And of course, it is going to save us sooo much money, lol.
