My daughter will be at FIT next year. Any suggestions on housing? I think the Columbia dorms look nice, but they are expensive and pretty far from the dining hall. Are they worth the additional money and inconvenience?

Columbia is good if you can afford it. The campus isn’t that big. It only takes 5 mins to walk to the dining hall from Columbia.

not sure if i’m too late. i am currently a sophomore at FIT and my honest suggestion would be to go with the regular dormitories. it is nice having your own room in CV (columbia villages nickname) but there are more benefits with living in the regular dorms your freshman year. I was put into Roberts hall and it was an amazing experience. it is less money than CV and you are able to be more social and make more friends in that type of housing. when you live in CV you only really talk and get to know your 3 other roommates, but in Roberts or the quad you get to know your roommate, and everybody else in your wing/floor making it easier to make friends and transition into college. the rooms in Roberts and the quad hold 2 people but the rooms are big and easy to house 2 people and give them plenty of their own space.

so the decision should come down to comfortable, more expensive living but harder to become social (CV), or cheaper less comfortable (sharing a room) living but will help the transition into college and help to make new friends.

hope i was able to help =)
