Housing

I'm worried about going to SBCC because from what I've seen there aren't many good places to live and the only "good" one is Tropicana Gardens but the yelp reviews are horrible for it. Does anyone live or have experienced living at Tropicana Gardens and can tell me more about it?

What makes you think Tropicana Gardens is good? If I were going there my big decision would be, “FT, or not FT?” - FT is nicer than Tropicana Gardens imho. I wouldn’t personally be interested in Trop or Fontainbleu which to me have all the downside of FT (not as good food and off campus) without the good things (1/3 of the freshman class rooms at FT and it is VERY social.) Otherwise, were it me I’d go shorties, but know I’d likely at least start in a triple there, or San Nic (I think these don’t have the same likelihood of triples but you have to use the elevator including on move in and move out).

If you want ‘nice’ as in nicer facility I’d say FT or Manzanita from what I’ve heard (Manzanita is less social some say, but best food and quieter. ) Just wondering how you pegged Trop Gardens as the good one?

I went a long time ago, but have been looking into it with my sons who have been accepted there. If you have heard things about Tropicana Gardens I’d be interested in hearing it. It was a private apartment house when I went there.

Edit- from your other post I get it that you are talking about SBCC not UCSB. That also explains why you are talking about Tropicana Gardens not Tropicana del Norte. I understand Trop Gardens is a private dorm but run like a dorm in that it has get togethers and outings etc to help people get to know each other. I actually did stay there for sorority rush back when I was in college, but that was when it was a private apartment building, so the set up was very different. Hopefully someone will answer your other thread. I think there are youtubes on it that you can see, however. I ran into one when I was looking for views of the UCSB dorms.

Good luck!

Why don’t you call SBCC and ask what they think is the best place to live, and add ‘for a residential experience’. I only know Trop, but that is because it is in Isla Vista. It actually looks pretty good from this: <a href=“tropicana gardens isla vista - Google Search”>tropicana gardens isla vista - Google Search;

There may well be other SBCC quarters if you don’t want to be in IV, as well. I was comparing it to living ‘on campus’ because I initially thought you were talking about UCSB. However, SBCC students may have other private dorm situations elsewhere, which may be terrific. I just don’t know them because my focus is on UCSB.
