Housing

I am going through all of the forms for new student housing registration. There is a section for Theme Housing and another section for regular housing. If someone is in a dorm with a particular theme of interest, will that student automatically be a part of that theme community or do theme communities have limited number of students even if other students in the same dorm are interested in being a part of that community? If theme housing is requested, does Reed automatically make theme housing a priority over regular housing? When theme housing is requested, do the choices listed have to match the dorms that house that theme community? For example, if the first choice theme is Music Appreciation Society (which is housed in Chittick), does Chittick have to be listed as the first choice dorm? What if the only reason someone wants to go to Chittick is only to be a part of the Music Appreciation Society and would not want to be there if the theme community is already full? What if another dorm is preferable if a theme community cannot be accommodated? How do we show that on the registration form?

That brings back memories.
My daughters freshman dorm was Chittick.
Her younger sister called it Chickadee.
I would think you should give your theme dorm priority, cause perhaps if they need more space they will move it to a larger dorm.
Thats what I would do anyway.

You can only request theme dorms by theme, not by dorm name.

emeraldkity4, I understand that. My question is regarding how to list dorm priorities. If I want to be a part of the Music Appreciation Society theme dorm, which is housed in Chittick, do I have to list Chittick as my first choice dorm? If I do not make it into the Music Appreciation Society dorm, then I would rather have another dorm as my first choice. How is this indicated on the registration forms?

I understand what you are asking. There are two different places in the online registration, one to rank your dorm choice and one to state if you want a theme dorm. I think they automatically give the theme choice top preference, and the separate ranking of dorms is in case you don’t get into the theme dorm (if you requested one). If you are really concerned, you should contact res life.
