Hi, I'm an international student coming to study to UofSC for the next semester and i'd like to have more information about the dorms. I can apply for the Maxcy, Bates West and the Quads and i'd like to know which is the best for position (i'll study business at the moore), parties, atmosphere and activities

Depends on what you want. If you’re international, then I’m guessing you’re probably not used to the dorm experience and probably want your own room. (At least, that was my experience with meeting other students when I lived in France. It seemed that mainly only Americans shared rooms.)

Anyways, there’s a LOT more freedom with being in an apartment (such as Bates West and the Quads), but there’s a LOT more of a community feel in a dorm (like Maxcy). Maxcy is a great location. (Five minute walk to the old and new business buildings, the humanities building, the social sciences building, and the student union) Bates West is a terrible location. The Quads are okay, although they are at the bottom of a hill. (South and East Quad are decent. They’re right by Russel House.) West Quad is a bit far off.)

If you want an “American college” experience, I would go with Maxcy. If you want your freedom (with being allowed to have whatever visitors you want to come and go at any time), then I would go with one of the Quads.

[Also: I lived in Maxcy my freshman year, so I can attest to you that it’s a great place to live.]

So Based on the things you put:
Location: Maxcy is best.
Parties: (Most parties are going to be off-campus anyways). Otherwise, on campus… The Quads.
Atmosphere: Maxcy
Activities: Maxcy
Prices: Maxcy is also a good bit cheaper.

You do have to share a room in Maxcy, whereas in the Quads, you’d more than likely get your own room.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply, very useful. Another thing i’d like to ask you. At Maxcy as an international student will i have an American roommate or one with my same “status” because i want to live the real American college life and so this can change a lot to me

It honestly depends.

When I lived in Maxcy (2011-2012 school year), I knew rooms that had only international students, rooms with only American students, and then rooms with both an American and an international student. And I think every international student at least had an American suitemate. (Suitemates are the ones you share a bathroom with.)

But, living in the dorms, you really get to know everyone on your hall pretty well. A lot of people leave their doors open and you can just stop by and chat. All of my best friends my freshman year were people who lived on my hall at Maxcy.

Out of curiosity, if you don’t mind saying, where are you from?

i’m spanish
