Although Tulane is definitely top choice, we are still considering all our options because of financial considerations. Is it necessary to send in housing deposit? If we wait, will we regret? Thanks!

You can definitely wait. Unlike many state schools (and maybe others, I don’t know) Tulane does their housing all at once after the May 1 final date. Essentially you fill out a form where you indicate the top 2 choices for housing and a roommate, if you have met someone you want to room with. In fact, Tulane has on campus orientation sessions throughout June (as well as Top Scholars weekends in March and April if s/he was invited to that program) where students sometimes meet a future roommate, so everything doesn’t really happen until after all that. July is the big month for the dorm people at Tulane to get busy. Additionally, Tulane has two dorms for freshmen that are what are known as Residential College style, meaning that a professor (and family if they have one) lives in the dorm and the students play a large role in the day to day governance of the dorm and event planning. These dorms require an additional application, but again that is later in the process and there is no penalty for timing as long as they are in by the deadline.

So bottom line, you can relax at this point as far as the Tulane portion is concerned, except for getting in your FAFSA and CSS of course. Tulane will send instructions on next steps, and of course people will no doubt post about everything happening here on CC.
