housing

I'm a sophomore transfer student for the spring. I was wondering if anyone knew how the housing system works in terms of placement
I'd really love a single, what are the chances of me even getting one?
Since houses are in fact houses as opposed to traditional dorms what is the atmosphere like?
I've dormed with women for a year and a half nonowo my expectation is to encounter drama and gossip and all the stuff that made my living experience at my former school intolerable.
can anyone maybe shed light on their experience at Smith?

The likelihood of getting a single will vary depending where on campus you live. There are houses that have nothing but singles and others where it is uncommon to get a single if you are not an upperclassman. The atmosphere varies by house. I personally live in a house where the community is fairly close-knit, I have friends in houses where this is not so much the case. Is there a particular part of campus you are looking to live in (it would be easier to answer your questions if you had a part of campus in mind)?

Thanks. Well on my housing form my first pick was the king/scales area (sorry I forgot the name of the area itself). But I think I’d like to live in king.

If you live in the quad you should get a single (I don’t actually live in the quad but I am pretty sure it is all singles). I can’t speak to the house community there (sorry).

Thanks for the help. I’m hoping I’ll actually like Smith lol. What’s your overall experience been? What is something I wouldn’t know by visiting the website or taking a tour?
I’m an English major too so I’m hoping the academics will be a step up from my previous school .

Hi daridee, I’m going to message you my answers (I feel like the conversation is quickly going to turn into really specific questions that are easier via message)…

Hi, how are the houses with the vegan/vegetarian dining halls?

Hi redpoodles,
I live in Northrop House which has vegan/vegetarian dining. While I am not vegetarian, I find that the dining hall almost always has good healthy and vegetarian choices. However, it can sometimes be hard to make a full vegetarian meal in some of the other dining halls. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you!!
