I was recently admitted as undeclared in the CFANs program and I will most likely declare in Applied Economics. I learned that most CFANs students live on the St. Pauls campus, but I really want to live on the main campus. If my major is Applied Econ, would it be okay to live on the Twin Cities campus? Any input/recs on housing and halls is appreciated, thanks!
Just to get the correct terminology… you mean “would it be okay to live on the Minneapolis campus”? Twin Cities = Minneapolis + St.Paul.
And yes, I strongly recommend any freshman live on the Minneapolis campus, even if CFANS. Minneapolis is where all the activity is. St.Paul is a very quiet campus, and while it has its charm and amenities (including its own student union and rec center), it’s largely outside the major campus celebrations and activities. Many of your freshman classes will be on the Minneapolis campus anyway, and there are campus busses to take you to St.Paul easily for any you need to take there. Unless you’re coming in as an upper division student, it’s worth it to live on the Minneapolis campus. You can move to Bailey in later years if you like.
As for particular halls… 17th Street is probably the most popular. It’s the newest, well located- near the stadiums and Dinkytown. I always recommend Comstock as it’s right in the middle of campus, and easiest to get shuttles or classes from. The Superblock (Centennial, Frontier, Territorial and Pioneer) are very social. I would not recommend Middlebrook, as it’s a long walk from where most of your classes are likely to be.
Congrats on your admission and Ski-U-Mah!!
Thank you!
