Housing

Hey everybody,

Now that UCLA offers 3 years guaranteed housing for incoming freshmen, I'm curious as to how many UCLA students actually stay for 3 years or more on-campus. I'm asking because my dad has a friend whose son voluntarily opted out and started renting off-campus.

Thanks

thats because provided you can get willing roomates, its actually cheaper to live off campus in most cases...(split the rent)

If I dorm with you, I just might do that...

:| g*ddamn... we're supposed to be college students soon

lol it's nothing. Unfortunately, I know this guy in real life and he's.. you know.. a bit strange in the "normal department."

Is it only 3 years? I know many seniors coming back to the dorms next year.

Yea, the new policy is 3 years 'guaranteed'

I'm guessing that afterwards, students are placed in a lottery to determine housing. THose seniors got lucky I guess.

Don't worry. I have a feeling that by the time the Class of 2010 enters their third year, the deficit in housing availability caused by Sproul Hall's closure will be recovered and on-campus housing will once again be guaranteed for four years.

Wait...Sproul is being closed?

It's being shut down for renovations, it'll reopen in a year or two.

When we fill out the application, what do they use our "passport-quality" photo for? What happens if we forget/never turn it in?

yeah... I was wondering about that too

For housing? You don't need to. I think perhaps it's useful in the case they need to identify you when you left your room key and all ID in your room?

It's optional.

However, the passport-quality photo is a must for BruinCards, unless you plan to do that during Orientation.

So for the BruinCard when do we submit our picture for it? And if not, how would we do it during orientation?

wazzzup7up: By any chance is your name Peter?

For5aken

I have no idea what youre talking about. What kind of stupid name is Peter?
It's Patrick.

j/k... yea it is. Who are you?

edit: initials HH?

Submitting a picture for BruinCard will save you time during Orientation. Otherwise you'd have to get there early and wait in line to do it. (They don't have time specifically alloted for that.)

What exactly do they mean by passport-quality?

-solid colored background?
-90% of picture= head?

Is there a dimension restriction? DOes anybody know?

Thanks!

Don't they have a PDF with samples? Well basically they want what you would get if you go out and get passport photos. So yeah, basically white background and your face will comprise most of the 2x2 (if I remember correctly) photo.

I'm not sure how lenient they are...

Yeah. It's HH. How you've been? Haven't seen you in years!
