Are there already people accepting their offer to attend? My daughter has a popular dorm in mind as her first choice. What determines your chance of getting your first or even second pick? The date that you accept the invitation to attend? We were sort of waiting to hear about possible scholarships so we could know how much Pitt will cost.
Housing comes out later, I think March? So plenty of time to wait for scholarships and evaluate all your choices. Commiting early doesn’t speed up housing.
@flashk There’s no advantage for housing by committing early. I think whether or not you get your first choice depends on the popularity of the dorm. I don’t think the assignments will be made until summer.
As RyanG1207 said, you shouldn’t feel pressure to commit early. The deadline to commit to Pitt is May 1. Panther Central (the office that manages housing) starts sending information to anyone who is already committed in March and continues to send as more people commit. Essentially, to guarantee a spot in Pitt housing, you must pay your tuition deposit by May 1 and make sure you meet any deadlines Panther Central gives you for housing. Housing is not given out on a first-come-first-served basis. In June after everyone has deposited, Panther Central will start assigning housing to students. They collect information from everyone on their preferences and do their best to accommodate them, but cannot promise you will get your first choice.
Ok, thank you everyone, that is very helpful! With that removed from our worry pile, we only have to chew our thumbs and stress over a possible scholarship. Easy, right?
Is there any kind of official “Luxury” housing for students with more amenities and I would assume a higher price? Anything off-campus (but still right there) for students like that?
While construction continues on some floors and amenities, Skyvue was able to open the furnished floors and students moved in in August. Pitt actually rented some apartments in Skyvue for students when dorm space ran out. Some students are in hotels paid for by Skyvue while construction on their apartments continues. For students looking at subsequent semesters, it will be 100% finished.
