I will be coming to USC in fall 2019 and I am trying to narrow down my housing choices. I am going to wait to see if I get into the honors college, but have some other residence halls in mind. I am looking at Honors Dorm (if I get in), East Quad, and Patterson. I will be a student at the business school and am planning on rushing. Does anyone have any insight into these 3 places and which is better?
I like East Quad, but I’m not sure how I feel about living in an apartment my freshman year of college (I’d rather have a roommate since I don’t know anyone else going there).
I really like Patterson. You can’t beat the location and it seems like there is a great sense of community there. You don’t get as much private space as you would in an apartment but it would seem you could make friends easier in a true dorm setting. Make sure you are okay with it being a high rise.
You would have roommates in an East Quad room. The floorplan shows an apartment with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. Common living room and kitchen. Nice location as well.
@lastone03 I like the idea of having a roommate that I share a single room with (like in suite-style) over having a separate room from everyone I am living with. Just for my first year at least I’d like to share a room with one other person since I’m coming from very far OOS.
If you don’t get into Honors and are offered Capstone, I highly recommend that dorm. It’s definitely older but the rooms are the largest of all the dorms and the kids there are both highly motivated, great students but also very social and do a lot of things together. My daughter and some of her Capstone friends will be going to Greece in May through their program. The location is a little further away but your first year will be a lot of general classes that you can select on that end of campus. My daughter’s furthest classes are her Science ones but they’re still just a 13-15 minute walk–it seemed far at first but you get used to it. She knows kids in Patterson and some of the quads and they just don’t socialize as much as her dorm. Capstone is the furthest from Greek Village which can be a pain, but mine has a car and drives a group of girls over there, or there is a shuttle that runs to and from so it’s really not that big of a deal. When they were all dressed up for rush or go to various functions, they share an Uber to get to Greek Village.
