So, for those of you accepted, where are you going to be living?

For those of you already at BU, where’s the best place to stay and why?

I think I like 575 Commonwealth, except for the triple rooms. I’m still deciding!

If you go to this link, you can see some pictures of dorms. BU housing is way varied and it totally depends on what you want and chance. Some people really like Warren because it's social and others hate it because it's big.

BU will assign freshman into rooms with sophomores and juniors in the more brownstone buildings. I guess if you don't list any big dorms in your list you fit in a different category. Kind of random, but with so many kids to place what can you expect?

West is pretty far from CAS, SMG and ENG but it's next to FitRec and close to CFA and SHA. HoJo - that's 575 - is a great location, on the edge of Kenmore and maybe 5-10 minutes from CAS.

any advice on housing for a COM student?

I'm really liking Warren Towers as of now based on the description

When I visited back in March the dorms they showed us were pretty crappy.. anyone know what building they use to show prospective students? I'm not expecting anything that great out of a dorm, but I'll take the nicest I can get :)

The dorms they show on the tour (Towers) are about the same as Warren. I live in the Hojo and the actual building is amazing. We just lose a lot of the social aspects of freshman year b/c ppl usually keep to themselves since there are a lot of upperclassmen. And we actually have more room as a triple than doubles in places like warren and towers.

as a freshmen you're probably going to end up in west, warren, or towers [the "sample" dorm location] unless you're really lucky and get 575 or a brownstone.

west is way too far from cas and the gsu so i definitely couldn't stay there. plus, during orientation that is where they put us and i could've sworn i was in hell. it was hot as hell, the carpet was stained and gross looking ... it was just a definite no. plus, my roommate lived there last year and she had mice in her room. west does have the best dining hall though ...

warren has a lot of people. one of my friends refers to it as a mini-city because it seems like there is always something going on. carpet in the rooms and larger than the rooms in west

the rooms in towers have more storage space than all of the other large dorms and it's not too loud or busy. i think there's a pretty fair mix of freshmen and sophmores and i love the location on bay state and not comm ave [the construction is reason enough to be thankful for bay state]. um, no carpet and i think they're larger than the rooms in warren or they're the same size.

myles, shelton, and danielson ... i don't know too much about them.

for Remberthelove:

I'm a COM Freshman and I live at Warren.

I perfer it to West because it is so much closer to your classes than West. COM101 for you (first semester Freshmen) is at Morse Auditorium, which is East of Warren (5 minute walk tops) while it is about a mile away from West Campus. Your other classes will also be MUCH closer to Warren than West (since you will be taking 3 other CAS classes, and the CAS building is right across the street from Warren)

I also like Warren because, as someone else said, there are a LOT of people there to get to know and get along with. My best friends are the guys on my floor, but people I know in other classes that also live at Warren I see more often and therefore get to know them more. The people I know at West say they like it, but none of the three buildings join together (they're separate structures), so it's not the same.

As for the dorms at these large-style residences...yeah, not pretty. They're pretty small IMO, but you get used to it once you settle in.

My S lived in Warren as a freshman and chose to live in it again as a sophomore. It's a great location for CAS students and also a few blocks away from Hillel. There's a recent Boston Globe article about dorm food that focuses on Warren Towers.
http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2006/12/10/food_for_thought/

It's debatable that West has a better Dining hall than warren, but at least Warren's Dining Hall is inside it. If you live in west there's a chance that you'll have to go outside to get there, which isn't goona be so fun in winter.

Also, west is really far from almost everything, and I hear the games on Nickerson get distracting at times.

One benefit I have heard for West is that when you go home it feels like your going home instead of still having classrooms all around you, which I don't really feel like myself, but I guess some people do.

rememberthelove, COM has a floor in Warren, so you could select to live with other COM students. If you're interested in journalism, advertising or PR, that's probably a more attractive option than if you're film or TV.

west is not THAT far from everything. it's a 12-15 minute walk to the center of the campus. unless you're super lazy, it really isn't that far, especially if you like the location. i personally love west enough that i chose it again for this year, my sophomore year. yeah, it'd be great if the walk was cut down to maybe 5-8 minutes, but i've gotten used to it and i think the distance is well worth everything else west campus offers (better food, later latenite hours, close to the fitrec, close to the 24/7 shaw's supermarket, close to the super 88 asian supermarket, close to more restaurants, close to nickerson field, more open space, and more grass)

I LOVE West Campus!!! I live in Claflin, which is attached to the dining hall, as well as Sleeper. A walk in the cold from Rich to Sleeper is less then a minute. Also, Nickerson isn't a distraction unless your room faces that side. Elevator lobby rooms are crap. My room does have a carpet, and it's only hot in here for about the first week of school. I like it a lot better than Warren, because I think the rooms are a tad bit bigger. It's a ***** if you are in any school other than CGS and CFA, but it's a really good atmosphere. People are really nice and it has more of a campus-y feel than Warren.

To explain, CFA, CGS and SHA are all on the west side of the overpass where Comm Ave goes over the Mass Pike.

And to further explain the TLA's (Three Letter Acronyms/Abreviations)

CFA - College of Fine Arts
CGS - College of General Studies
SHA - School of Hospitality Administration
