housing

When do we get information for housing? Do we have to wait til after the RD decisions come out?

hmm... thats an excellent question, what dorms are you looking into? They got a huge variety, from the all girl ones, to the african american ones like ujamaa and than there is the food oh man dont get me started on Cornells apple cider. Early Decision was the best christmas present ever haha im loving it, and good luck everyone.

i def wanna be in either court or mews

congratulations on getting into cornell. what a great accomplishment.

unfortunately, you have to wait until the spring/summer to find out about housing. they wait until all of RD is notified of their status, as well.

court and mews are the best, though. i was in court my freshman year and it rocked!!

Anyone know anything about the Donlon Halls? The description makes it seem appealing and the room size is bigger than most other doubles. How does it compare to Court?

hmmm, the doubles in donlon are a tiny bit larger than those in either court or mews. It's definitely a lot more social, or at least it appears that way since the doors can stay open, while in mews and court the doors automatically swing shut. It's closer to RPCC while court isn't close to either dining hall. I dunno, you don't really get to choose where you live, so there's no point in worrying about it.

As a resident of Donlon, I can tell you that Donlon is definitely the most social dorm. The unique thong shape of the building is good because we have a gigantic lounge in the middle of the building on every floor.

unfortunately, of course... we do not get to select our living location unless we request balch or a program house.

Some general info on most dorms...

Donlon is really social...its the party dorm, hehe. Ppl tend to burn popcorn pretty often though, so theres a lot of pointless fire evacuations...in my freshmen year anyway.

Dickson is a maze, there are sooo many rooms and twists and turns...I always get lost in there. Rooms are okay...

Balch is really really nice and convenient. Its the first dorm you go past on your way back from class and you get your own sink! Plus, depending on what side you're on, you'll get RedRover :) Some classes are taught there too...like writing seminars which you guys have to take in your freshman year.

Court/Bauer and Mews are super hi-tech and brightly lit with nice lounges and stuff. Theres even a large screen TV residents can use.

Townhouses are huge and really nice. You have a kitchen and living room...I thnk it comes with a TV too. But they're sooo far from the rest of the dorms that townhouse ppl tend to come off as anti-social

You dont really get to choose which one to live in, unless you specifically request all-girls/all-guys. But even then you might not get into Balch or Low Rises.

Out of curiosity, how it the bathroom situation at the various houses. In specific, what is the setup for the bathrooms of Donlon and Court/Bauer? 1 bathroom for an entire floor? 1 bathroom for a few rooms?

because Balch is an all girls' dorm, is living there freshman year social suicide?

absolutely not. I know plenty of girls in balch and most are outgoing, gregarious, and fun girls. You will have just as much fun there as you would anywhere else.

hmm if you're in court/bauer, its like, 4 ppl to one full bathroom--the building is built suite-style. im not sure about mews...i didn't spend much time there. in donlon, theres a huuuge public bathroom thats for the entire unit.

Balch is all girls, but its definitely not social suicide...I lived in Balch and I have a healthy social life :) its actually pretty nice cos you dont have sketchy guys following you around...RAs interrogate guys who wander around w/o an escort. And girls like to get together and watch sex and the city or something on the weekends.

good to know, thanks :)

LOVE Sex and the City

vbear, for the donlon bathrooms, how many people do you consider as an "entire unit"? As for the court/bauer, do you mean 4 rooms or 4 people per bathroom?

bump ^ ^ ^ ^

hmmm, donlon has like 6 bathrooms or so per floor, with like 70-80 people on each floor I think. I didn't court/bauer was 4 to a bathroom, but in mews it 5 to a bathroom. And the bathrooms have like 10 sinks a lot of showers and toilets so it's not like you'll be waiting in line to take shower or anything, mostly just like any other dorm you would see.

thanks .

are court/bauer/mewes social at all?

What's the deal with single rooms? I had a cousin who reccomended it, and said it wouldn't be hard to get as a Freshman with early decision.
