Housing

Can anyone, especially a current student, tell me anything about the roommate selection process? Isn't there a survey of some sort for the student to complete so that Panther Central can match up roommates? What's on the survey? What kinds of questions are asked? What does a student do if he/she just can't get along with the person assigned to the same room? Thanks a lot!

students fill out a survey that contains an assortment of questions
some questions: what type of music do you listen to? how late do you stay up?
do you watch much tv? what are your favorite activities? The questions are rather general and broad.
If you don't get along- you try to work it out- you can try and change rooms, or wait until the semester ends and then change
Think positively---
you also can request a single

When my son lived in the Towers, each floor had one or two vacant beds (I assumed to resolve roommate problems.) Mid-year transfers sometimes took these beds also. Pitt also has some "emergency housing" if you have a roommate fight and just need to get away for a day or two.

Keep in mind that you don't have to love your roommate; you just need to respect each other and you can get along just fine.

I filled out the roommate survey last summer as an incoming freshman, and when the housing assignments finally rolled in through the mail... surprise! I got a single in Lothrop. I was very surprised, since I requested a double in Towers. But hey, it's worked out well for me, so don't go insane if the same thing happens to you.

Bender, can you comment on Forbes/Honors housing for incoming freshmen?

Bender,
How do you like Lothrop? What are the advantages and disadvantages of living there? Are you in a health related field? Thanks.
