Housing

What do you guys think the best housing is for a freshman?

I'm leaning towards Unit 1 since it's close to campus from what I hear and it's got good amenities. Also, what are the advantages/disadvantages of mini-suites?

unit 1 is commonly considered the best of the units, for the reason you just described. It seems to be in the middle of social/academic priorities, such that you can study when needed, but the place isn't like a giant fraternity 24/7.

If you want a more quiet place, you would want foothill, stern, or bowles. Bowles hall, though all male, probably gives you the biggest living area, with large closets, bedrooms, and an adjacent study/common room.

Unit 2 and 3, I hear, are more towards the loud loud side, but I cannot say for sure because I haven't spent much time at either.

Mini suites are nice, but they run the likely hood of being more secluded and isolated, because you never really have to leave your suite.

hope that helps.

Mini suites aren't great for freshmen. They're nicer than regular freshman dorms in terms of furnishings, newness, space, but you don't get the freshman experience. I don't know anyone on my floor, really, besides my suitemates whom I met freshman year. Moreover, your chances of getting one are slim because preference for them is given to sophomores.

Unit 1 would be my first choice too. Unit 2 is basically the same as Unit 1 as far as loudness/social-ness goes (that really depends on your floor, not what unit you're in). It is, however, a block further. Unit 3 is just...gross, in my opinion. It's old and everything's just a little bit worse. Its new cafeteria is quite nice though.
