is housing guaranteed for freshmen (including supplemental housing) and if it is, where did you find that information?

same question here..

you can apply on-line
about 59%freshman live on campus
about 19% students live on campus
from their website ,you can learn more
if you need a roommate ,you can contact me
i am also looking for a suitable roommate

Housing is NOT guaranteed for Freshmen, or any other students. UT simply does not have the capacity to accommodate all the freshmen who would take advantage of it.

Yeah when I went for Longhorn Saturday last year the lady giving us the housing presentation was actually saying that UT doesn't really encourage kids to live on campus that much cause they can't accomadate them all! Haha. Now, that being said a lot of people right off the bat go private to places like Dobie, Towers, SRD etc so maybe if you apply like right now you'd get supplemental but who knows.

ok can y'all be more clear... on what basis is the housing assigned? is it like a first come first serve basis or what?

PS: I MIGHT SOUND LIKE AN IGNORANT FOOL BUT ITS BECAUSE IM AN INTERNATIONAL AND I DONT HAVE MUCH INFORMATION.
Thanks....

Priority goes first to upperclassmen who lived on campus last year, then to upcoming freshman ( I believe it goes in order of when you applied for housing) and then to people who lived off campus and now want to live on campus

so its better that i apply now right... i mean its better if i apply early because that gives me a good chance of getting the housing done...

^ you're starting in fall 2007 right? if you are, you should have applied for housing a long time ago. people started to apply as early as september. i applied in jan and was told that i might not get a housing contract. you might want to start looking for off-campus housing.

so if i kno i'm going to be attending ut but i am not going to apply early admission, is there any way i can still apply for housing early, or do i have to find out if i'm accepted or denied first, even though i'll be automatically in cuz of the top 10% rule

housing is on a first hand first hand basis (depending on how early you submitted your application).
it is not guaranteed to freshman.
if you do get housing and want to live on campus after your freshman year, you have higher priority than those who never did or freshman coming in.
pretty much if you live here on your freshman year and want to stay your second year, it is highly likely that you will get a spot.
i'm a freshman now and already received a contract for my sophomore year.
any other questions, post them!

^^^^ by application i meant housing application ^^^^^^^^

hey.. CECIUY.. I havent applied for housing as yet... what do you think will be my chances of getting housing if i apply now..

also people ask me to look for off campus housing but I'm an international and any idea on how do i do that...

yeah i am also an international student i am also looking for a room
i want a shared room with community bath
i wonder whether there is some house left
if not i won't submit my application fee
i don't waste 50 dollars to find no house left
thanks

well.. you could always stay off campus u know... i would appreciate if someone at austin could give more advice n this regard...

well if you apply right now you'll probably get supplemental housing, which is 4 people to a study lounge.

I'd recommend off-campus dorms like Dobie or the Castilian, or Towers (although I don't know if they all have their rooms filled-call them!)

Anyway, Riverside is pretty cheap, but it does have the reputation of being less safe.

If you have enough money, you could try for apartments in West Campus =)

I would recommend that each of you with questions have a good look around the Division of Housing and Food Service's website. There's a lot of good info about the application process, different dorms, etc. there. If you don't find the answer to your question, you can always call them. They're pretty nice and I've never heard of any of them biting anyone. ;)

UT typically begins accepting applications for on campus housing in October, so if you think that there's a good chance that you'll be attending UT, then it's good to get your application in then. You don't have to be admitted to apply for housing. That said, they'll start a waiting list and there are always people who end up not going to UT or deciding to live off campus. If you're interested in housing for this fall, you could always give them a call and find out what the status of the waiting list is. They probably won't be able to guarantee you one way or another, but they may be able to give you a general idea.

If it doesn't work out to live on campus, there are several off-campus dorms. The first few that come to mind are Dobie, Castilian, Scottish Rite Dorm (SRD) which is all-female, the Goodall-Wooten, and Towers. There may be a few more and I'm sure if you google something like austin dorms, you'll find websites for most of them.

Also look at the Co-op housing - much cheaper than dorms, and prices include food. You are supposed to work 4 hours per week to help run the coop - by cooking, cleaning, etc... Lots of fun, and they are very close to campus. They don't usually fill up as fast because fewer people know about them. There are two different sets of coops - www.iccaustin.coop/about.htm and www.collegehouses.coop. They are full of international students.

hey anxiousmom.. thanks a lot.. ill admit i never heard of the co-op housing...
