housing

housing assiagnments are up at eliving
i got stuck in a qua so im a little upset
im in geary at east

Right now (this summer) my room number is 144 which is on the first floor. Will a room number of 043 for the Fall mean I will be living in the basement?

It is probably the first floor of that building (unless it is in the same building you are in now.)
Some dorms actually have rooms that are a bit lower than ground level (Simmons is one). The window is at ground level.

killer, you are at psu already?

My assignment was posted. Who knows what it is going to be like with this roomate but I am very satisfied with the hall I got--looks like this year is off to a good start : ).

SO, anyone planning on calling/emailing your roomates? I guess it is a bit too early...

killer, what do you think of PSU so far and are you getting along with your current roomate ? And are you fitting in the whole PSU spirit, it was a culture shock for me coming form a public HS in nyc.

I just came back from Artsfest, and I'm using one of the MAC's at the HUB right now. I came from a public HS in NYC too. I really like my roommate. We get a long really well. BRB. The HUB is closing in 5 minutes. I'll post more when I get back to my dorm.

I really like PSU so far. Everyone here is so nice especially the people who work here. The best part about Penn State, I think, are the classes. They aren't easy nor are they too hard. I came from a dumb HS, and I learn something new after every class here in Penn State. Also, everything seems really organized too.

My roommate is really cool. He does his own thing, and I do mine. We don't bother each other when we study/sleep, and we chat occasionally. Most of the time I'm at the HUB, because I like to study there.

frasifrasi- What was wrong with ur old roommate, and what building will you be in for the Fall?

lil_killer I pretty much agree with you. If I look back, I think I liked PSU (apart from my roomate and some other people). In fact, I think I would have loved it if I had a better roomate. I also agree that the classes weren't too hard or too easy. It wasn't as if you could completely slack of and still expect an A, or work really really hard and get a bad grade. The campus is really nice and I love the HUB. Late Night was really fun too for non-alcoholics like me lol.

good to hear, lil killer. I wouldn't get too comfortable with the rigor so far, though. You are only taking a few classes and the headache begins when you start taking intro chem, bio, calc, and other large classes.

So, you are not hanging out with your roomate at all? Where is he from and in what hall are you staying?

--The problem with my roomate was that we had nothing in common at all. Therefore, we just didn't have any incentive to be actual friends. He also didn't respect my study habits and did a few things that upset me (like arriving drunk a couple of times and throwing up in the waste basket).

hey, maybe I will see you around the campus--you are taking phys 211 in the fall, right?

Are the curtin rods provided? My D and her roommate would like to have curtins and obviously they had to wait until they had their room assignment (Curtin Hall). I'm just wondering if we need to provide the curtin rod also.

springfieldmom: so far all the rooms I have seen have rods and beige curtains already up. Never been in Curtain Hall though.

Thanks. Well, these are girls. They want to change things around and be unique!

frasifrasi - I don't hang out with my roommate. We both hang out with different people. He's from State College, so he knows quite a few people (or a lot) that comes to Penn State, while I know none. But I made a few friends from my classes (especially ED&G100 since we work in groups for the design projects). My other class is Chemistry. It has 200 students. That class is A LOT of work when it comes to studying. I study/do chemistry homework about 3 hours/day. But I like large classes, moreso than smaller ones. I feel that "college experience" when I sit in a large class with 200 other students, because it's a change from HS. By the way, if you guys didn't have anything in common, nor be friends, why don't you guys hang out with other people? I mean....rommates don't have to hang with each other, do they? Just say "hey, hi, whats up? when he walks in the door. Thats it. And yes, I'm taking 211 in the Fall. I'm also staying in McElwain this Summer (Hoyt for Fall). You can also study outside of your dorm (go to the HUB, or the library, or under a tree, or a study group), and your roommate wouldn't know. Sorry about not answer your questions in order. Oh yeah, my roommate doesn't drink, so thats good because I don't either!

lil, what's your major? Some sort of engineering? Sounds like you're adjusting well and I'd imagine the summer program is helping. You're lucky that your roommate doesn't drink. Mine did, and while he never did anything directly to anger me, he did bring some trashed people back to the room a couple times throughout the year who were annoying. We actually never talked at all for much of the year...I was always the one initiating conversations, and I felt that if he didn't care, I didn't care...I had other things to worry about. It's just the chance you take with a random roommate. I know mine for 07-08, and things should be better :). Hope you enjoy PSU!

Yeah, I never hanged out with my roomate either. Our interactions did revolve around these "what's up?!" greetings during entrance/exit as we not only had nothing i common, but disagreed about most things. lil, did you contact your roomate prior to going to penn state(phone call, etc...)?

Setz, where did you dorm in the first year?

LOL frasi, I saw your roomate quite often he seems like a weirdo. Whenever I went to West Hall computer lab he was always there and laughing hysterically to himself when he was looking at something on facebook or something else.

lol. I doubt it mightynick, that might be my former roomate you are talking about (the one who was in your class). After one month, he decided to switch rooms to dorm with a friend of his.

My last roomate was from pennsylvania and different from me in every aspect (from political views, appearance, everything).

LOL that sucks coz both times you ended up with a person you didn't like.

Yeah, the first one was ok. He did get an A- in that eng class and scored higher on the sat writing, so...

Damn random assignments!

I guess the whole "best buddies" thing for roomates isn't quite realistic. Unless of course, you get someone who shares your interests and ideas, which does happen a lot at psu since the vast majority are white from PA, middle class, drinks, etc.
