Hi, I was just wondering if someone could explain the Housing at Tech? I know there's Freshman Experience and the option not to do that, but I would also like to know about the various dorms on campus and which are the most preferable, and other things about them that aren't on the official website (eg, what kind of people live in each dorm, what's to look for in a dorm at Tech). I'm a female, so if you could also take that into account when explaining things.. Thanks!

I have the same question, but I am a male!

All Freshman Experience dorms are traditional dorms. The suites are available for sophs and up. They are amazing! 90% of freshman live on the east side by the football stadium and Greek row. The west side is more quite but closer to the amazing CRC. I love that place, treadmills with TV's, indoor waterpark with huge slide! The housing website has a ton of info on it, did you check it out. Also check out the message boards for admitted students on the Ga Tech website.

Don't be fooled...housing is terrible at Tech, especially for freshmen.

housing is terrible??? it's definitely what you make it, and my experiences with it have been nothing but positive. My roomate is awesome, I like my hallmates, the facilities are fine, etc etc. Of course your room not a gigantic suite, but it's big enough for you to be comfortable and happy.

I agree with po898. Housing is terrible at Tech. Did anyone see there is new apartment style housing under construction at the corner of Tenth and Williams? I heard about it on Q100 and toured an apartment. They are renting by the room and its unbelievable, called 100 Midtown, I think that's the name. I'll be a senior and I've signed a lease there with my roommate. You can walk across the bridge and be on campus, about 2 blocks from Marta. They run it like a dorm, with residence life, but have a game room, 2 home theatres, fitness room.

Hi,
I visited Boston University, Case Western and University of Washington with my daughter and looked at the housing. GT's was by far, the least depressing. If you want to see awful housing, see Boston University.

Hey, all I have to say is that GT gives a good deal on midtown/downtown real estate... try renting it away from the school, and you'll be using that $1500-2000 you pay a year for a dorm for ONE MONTH'S rent on that sized apartment.

Thats good to know as an alternative to the dorms.

How much does it cost?

For Freshman Experience dorms, are the baths communal? Are there any Freshman suites that don't have communal baths?

You obviously have not seen the ULC or 8th street apartments if you think housing at Tech is terrible. Yeah, there are some places that aren't great but the apartments are great.

If I'm applying as a freshman, would I have better facilities (Better rooms, semi-private/private baths, cable outlet in bedroom, etc) if I didn't do the Freshman Experience, or should I sacrifice those facilities to do the Freshman Experience.

All rooms have cable TV outlets, and as a freshman you are very unlikely to get anything other than a traditional room (2 to a room - bathroom down the hall) whether you do Freshman experience or not. From what I have read, freshmen are not eligible for apartments and suites are generally filled up with higher level students who have priority for room assignments.

My daughter was assigned a 4-person room on east campus. She asked for west but did not get it. Any experience out there with this? They are thinking of having one room for sleep and the other for non-sleep. Does the air conditioning work in all rooms????

I know that in Towers and Glenn the quads have 2 rooms...I'm guessing its the same for women

And, yes, the air conditioning works in both rooms. My son was in a quad during orientation, and the AC worked very well (maybe too well) in both rooms.
