Housing

What are the names of freshmen dorms

thurston, HOVA, lafayette, maybe a few others

Thurston, HOVA, Lafayeete, Fulbright, and Mitchell (only single room occupancy) are the only dorms on the main campus. Other then that, there are dorms on the Mt. Vernon campus but it sucks there so don't live there (i'm speaking from personal experience)

Why don't you like Mt. Vernon?

is it hard to get housing sophomore year? junior, senior year? do many students have to find off-campus housing?

arent the dorms amazing with like maids and stuff?

What would you say is the best dorm for Freshmen?

I think HOVA is the "best" because it has nice amenities. From what I hear, GW has maid services in dorms.

Are any of you looking at fulbright?

Nah. Isn't that MV?

No, fulbright is on FB, right in the centre

is housing guaranteed for 4 years?

i visited fulbright yesterday. they're all quads and although it is in a nice location the rooms seem a little cramped. they have private bathrooms AND kitchens though!

cmon people...thurston thurston thurston! have the freshman experience!!!

That's the direction I'm leaning in. :)

what are you reasons for choosing thurston over, say, HOVA.

Me? I like Thruston over HOVA because (1) Thurston is closer to ESIA (even though I won't be having all of my classes there, it's still an advantage), (2) Thurston is quite larger than HOVA, and (3) Thurston offers quad+ room sizes, which I'm interested in. From all I've seen and heard, Thurston appears to be the more social dorm, which is a big plus. But don't get me wrong--I like both of them almost equally (keeping in mind the factors just mentioned), and HOVA will probably be my second choice anyway.

my previous question was directed at anyone. so thanks for answering josh.
ok, i'm really uninformed about college dorms..:-P
so i know what a single is and double is sharing a dorm with one other person. so triple is sharing one dorm with 2 other people? are these triple rooms really crowded?
what is a quad, five, six? suitemates type thing?
someone explain please, thanks.

i'm a bit uninformed as well. could someone explain to me whether lafayette is for only honors or not? i hear all this talk about HOVA and thurston but no one ever mentions lafayette (or fulbright, mitchell, and somers for that matter).

can someone please help me out?!

chickenlegs: Yep, triple is sharing with 2 others, quad is 3 others, and so on. From what I've seen on the housing website, doubles through quads are typically all in one large room, whereas five- and six-person rooms tend to be divided into two separate rooms (2 in one room, 3 in the other, etc.) that are connected and share a bathroom. From what I've seen you tend to get as much personal space in each arrangement, the room size just increases as you add more people. It's just a matter of how many roommates you want to put up with. :)

indie: I think Lafayette has non-honors frosh rooms as well, but I'm not positive. I seem to remember hearing about different frosh LLC's that make their home in Lafayette. HOVA and Thurston are mentioned so much because they are the two biggest and two most popular frosh dorms on campus--but there are several alternatives.

BTW, I'm no housing expert, this is just what I've been able to pick up during my own quest to figure out where I want to live next year. :)
