Does anyone have any advice about housing? I don't know anything about any of the dorms.

(I know this topic was discussed a lot after EA results, but searches have been disabled so I can't find the old threads.)

Not much advice b/c I haven't visited yet. But in the acceptance packet there is at least an entire booklet dedicated to housing. Go visit, see, and I am sure that whereever you end up, you'll like it.

Great site.

There's another thread somewhere that answers all this, but the search is disabled right now, so I can't get it.

However, lemme tell you wut i remember:

Snell-Hitchock: oldest dorm and right in the heart of campus, but also the fewest number of Freshmen slots, which probably have all been taken by EA acceptees already.

Max Palevsky: the newest dorm, located right behind Regenstein Library. Excellent location (located steps away from Bartlett dining hall), all rooms are suite-style where two rooms of two students each share two half-baths (one w/ toilet and sink and the other w/ shower and sink.) Supposed to easily spoil Freshmen.

Burton-Judson: Located across the Midway Plaisance next to the law school. Has its own dining hall, is one of the gothic-styled buildings on campus. Many freshmen can get singles here.

Broadview: A former hotel; all rooms are singles w/ their own private baths. The catch is that you are off-campus, meaning you'll have to walk 10 mins to campus or catch the bus. Also, supposed to be the most anti-social dorm; if you want a social life, this is the one to avoid.

Shoreland: Another former luxury hotel off-campus, except this one is located steps away from Lake Michigan. Has the largest dorm rooms; space is no issue at all. Also the most social dorm. The big catch is that it is a 15 minute walk to campus or 5 minute bus ride. UChicago is going to break ground next year on a new dorm that will replace Shoreland in 2008; they've already sold the building to a private developer.

I know I missed a few, but I don't recall anything special about those dorms.

Gee, after I made that last post, the search button appeared on my toolbar again.

There's two other threads that will be of help:

Thanks for the info!

bump, seems like everyone is looking for this info.

Max and Pierce are, by wide margins, the most social dorms. The only social people in Shoreland are those that couldn't get a room in Max or Pierce.

There was another good one regarding housing, but I can't find it! Anyway, I suggest everyone surf the archives -- VERY helpful info there, and you may find an answer to your question!
