Housing?

So the deposit has been mailed - when do we receive housing application?

The housing application opens the week of May 18th online. There will be a letter sent out to all the confirms with this information around May 1st.

I thought that there is no housing application and that dorms/roommates are randomly assigned. I might be wrong though.

Toeva, you’re right. Unless you have medical reasons to request a certain arrangements for your dorm, it’s random. But, as you find out, Notre Dame loves to make you fill out applications, contracts, and all sorts of paperwork even when it’s all predetermined.

yup…you get a letter in mid July I heard telling you your dorm and roomate…100% random

You’ll have to answer one question on the application, something like “will you be living on campus? (if you’re a freshman, the answer is yes)” So, yeah…

So I guess the whole process is just a formality then.
Thanks guys.

there are some freshman that live off campus (locals). I believe the application gets you into the housing system to get assigned for housing.

NDAlum05, I’m nearly positive that is not true. You are required to live on campus as a freshman.

Kevdude-locals might live off-campus; what about profs’ children that might be attending ND?

I stand by my statement - I’m almost positive that freshman are required to live on campus.

Sorry, I was wrong. They’re not required. But, that said, I’ve never even heard of a freshman who didn’t live on campus, including children of professors that I know.

do football players live in dorms mingled in with everyone else?

Yeah, the football players do live in the dorms. They are required to for a specific amount of time. I don’t know if it is a year or what. They aren’t evenly distributed though…they are put in specific dorms (the newer ones).

Not true. My student lives in one of the older dorms with several football players.

Football players, like everyone else, are only required to live on campus for one year. It doesn’t seem as if they move off at a higher rate than regular students either. And they can be placed in any dorm. I live in a dorm 103 years old and we had 2 this year.

housing seems to be 100% random, and none gets any benefit (this is what I was told).

Athletes do not get any privilege. the randomized format assures diversity in dorms.

I have rarely heard of horrible stories with roommates.

Yes, football players do live in the dorms. I’ve wondered, esp during move-in, and possibly seen a football player or two, just how well they fit in the rooms? Some of the rooms can be quite small, esp if the players are freshmen and are sharing a room.

^^^^ and, especially in Morrissey

From living in Duncan this year, we had a lot more than 2, and most of the big name recruits. I still don’t think that is a coincidence…
