Hey,
I’m going to be a fall undergrad freshman at Brandeis. I already paid my university deposit and filled out my housing survey/application on SAGE. I was wondering if anybody knows when I find out what dorm I’m going to be in/if I have a double or a triple?
Thanks

The Department of Community Living will email you your dorm, room number, and the name of your roommate in mid-July. However, there is a way to find out which quad (North or Massell - those are the two first year quads) and what kind of room you have earlier than that. I don’t remember exactly when this happens, but at some point (I think early July) you can log in to SAGE, go to “Account Inquiry” under finances, go to Fall Semester 2010, and it will give you the amount you’re being charged for tuition, meal plan, etc. Somewhere on that list it will say either Residence Contract-North or Residence Contract-Massell. That’s how you can tell which quad you’re in. The look at the price you’re being charged. The housing rates may be different for 2010-2011 but for this past year, if it said $2,625 you were in a lofted triple (that’s the price per semester); $3,035 is either a double or a natural triple.

As far as I know,

You find out roommate information at the end of June/ early-July. I thought I read somewhere that you must submit your roommate survey by June 1st, and you will find out your roommate June 30th–Don’t quote me.

Also, if you’re in a double, natural triple, or forced triple is based on when you paid the deposit. It’s in the order I listed it.

Does anyone know how many “forced triples” there are? Are they common, or rare?

I am the parent of a Brandeis alum. She was in a double room, although many on her corridor, co-ed by room were in forced triples. She filled in her housing form fairly early on after accepted students day and her decision to attend was made. One of her friends however waited until April 30th to decide and ended up with a random single… so there truly is not a specific game plan… Just be patient… you will find out soon enough during the summer with other freshman information.

^^ bookmama, either your D’s friends’s experience was truly random and rare, or there was not a specific game plan at that time, but there sure is now. when I called the housing office last summer (D is a first-year), I was told exactly what Elihayu2123 describes: rooms are assigned first doubles, then triples, then forced triples in the order that deposits are received.

PRJ did your daughter get a double?

she did get a double, but that was pretty much guaranteed because she applied ED so her deposit was paid very early. an unanticipated advantage of applying ED :)
