Housing

I'm trying to hurry & pick an off campus dorm to live at but I need help & advice! I'm looking at the cambridge or the tradition? Which is more reasonable price wise? & How much is housing on campus? I just want to compare prices.... Someone please help me!

Traditions is probably less expensive. The only way they compare price wise to the on campus dorms is if you do the 2 bedroom, 4 students route (2 per bedroom) and compare to the most expensive on-campus dorm.
You can go to the TAMU web site and see the prices of the dorms
If you are choosing between Traditions & Cambridge - I would keep in mind that Traditions is an easy walk to campus and Cambridge will be a ride on the shuttle bus.

Ok. I hope this isn’t like a stupid question but it says if you get a two bedroom its $970 a month. Is that per person?

yes it is per person - and that would include a meal plan, and electricity, cable tv, etc
it is probably 10 month lease as well.

considering an on campus dorm at the most expensive is about 5000 a year - and add on a meal plan that is close to $3,000 a year and you are paying about 1700 a year more for that off campus dorm

Ugh , this sucks.
& from there website it doesn’t look like you can get a one bedroom and share. No?
Do you have any other suggestions for housing?

this is a good compare document

All the private dorms offer double room/bunk bed options

I can get double rooms? So i can get a two bedroom & share a room & cut the 960 in half?

I cant find that Traditions has a double occupancy plan. I thought they did, we visited there in Nov 08.
So maybe you should look at Callaway house or Cambridge for the double occupancy bedroom plan – which is cheaper.
Call Traditions and ask -
'cause no, they wont cut the 960 in half. They have their plans and they fill them easily.

cambridge double occupancy for one bedroom is full & double occupancy for 4 bedroom is still pretty expensive…
Callaway has it but they don’t have prices online
& traditions doesn’t say
so looks like I’ll be making lots of calls tomorrow
thanks for your help :)

I’m living at callaway next year, in a 2 bedroom shared. Before I decided where I wanted to live, I made a spreadsheet of the costs at the tradition, cambridge, callaway, and on campus dorms. I’m not home right now, but I’ll post the info when I am. If I remember correctly, callaway was the cheapest of the off campus dorms.

I called each place & so far the cambridge looks cheapest…
I wanted a one bedroom shared at the cambridge but they’re full so the next cheapest is a 2 bedroom shared which is $957 a month…
The tradition 2 bedroom is $960 a month but they dont have shared rooms so I’d have my own room…
& the callaway house has all their regular housing already on a waiting list so all i could look at was the villas which is about $1,000 a month…
Ugh they all seem SO expensive…

but you have to keep in mind sadiemay2010, all the options you are looking at include meals/food plans, tv, internet, water, electricity, furnished, and are a pretty complete package. The Traditions and Callaway Villas are within walking distance.

That’s true…
Its just that I won’t have much parental help so everything will be paid for through financial aid & loans :frowning:
I guess I’ll be at the traditions…

The Traditions is nice. There are cheaper ways to go if look for them. Much cheaper.

Yeah like houses & apartments
But then I won’t have a meal plan & most people looking for room mates are upper classmen & like 23
I’m only 17
& i kinda want to experience living on campus & living at a private dorm is as close as I’ll be able to get

Join the Corps and you are guaranteed on campus housing :)

What about the woodlands?
I was searching the internet & came across them…
They seem cheapest at like $580 a month
But from their site they don’t seem like they have a meal plan
Anybody know or have comments?

So… cambridge is 960 something a month, and is that for one person, or is that for the whole apt? Do we get to split the 960 with 3 or 2 other people? I have two friends who are going to be roommates, and we need something CHEAP but not in a creepy location…

$960 is for one person
& no. The cambridge only has 1 room efficiency apartments that you share a room & its still like 800 a month
& they have 4 bed room shared but they’re still pretty expensive too.
The one bedroom shared is as cheap as they get with about 800

sadiemay2010 - Do you know if we pay a 12 month contract or is it based on a monthly basis? Like…we’re not going to be in College Station for all 12 months if we plan on returning to our hometown over the summer…
