anyone have anything to say about either...?

Houston's uphill and bigger. Tilton is downhill and smaller. Do you want something more specific?

anyone have anything to say about wren?

haha, well, Wren is pretty much the ****tiest dorm on campus, but the thing is, I know people who really liked living there - they liked the way the suites are set up and think it's super-social. Lots of people chose Wren in the housing lottery even though "better" dorms were still available. But basically it's known for smelling like cat litter and stuff, lol.

General comments about South Hall, anyone

Questions about South Hall:

The website says "built in closet"....does that mean there are drawers in the closet.......
Does the desk have drawers?

Same thing for Hill would be great too! =)

south hall is known for its big rooms and bathrooms where you can 'fool around' with someone else. it's downhill hence closer to davis and dewick which normally has better food.
hill is like on the opposite end of the campus (compared to south). it's in a nice place, lots of places to eat are nearby (on boston ave) and the mailroom is right in the basement. hill is known for the huge lounge and aerobics room.
i'm sorry i didn't stay in south so i don't specifically know what type of closet there really is.

haha ignited, you DID cover a few points.

I lived in South Hall and I'm living there again this year! It's amazing. I cannot stress enough how amazing private lockable bathrooms are (and not just for what my fave RA called "conjugal showers", lmao.) Just that you can go in there, lock the door, and shower/brush teeth/etc in peace.

South has two types of doubles and a bunch of singles. Corner room doubles are bigger than the regular kind - the closets don't have drawers, they're just spaces in the wall that have a pole to hang things on and a shelf on top, but they're pretty nice. In corner rooms, the closets are on this small "foyer" that separates the door from the room, and in non-corner rooms there are two closets on either side of the entrance.

It's the biggest dorm. It can be confusing at first but after a while you realize that it's one long corridor, with three halls at right angles (like this: |_|). It's really nice and clean compared to dorms like Hodgdon, and doesn't smell bad, which many do, lol. Some people get annoyed with the colors (purple, green, pink, etc) but it's better than the gross greys and browns you see elsewhere on campus haha. I LOVE South to death, and I only hope you're not on the first floor hahaha. The 2nd floor has one hallway all boys, one coed, and one all girls. Third and fourth are coed throughout, but the 4th floor has slanted ceilings so the rooms are smaller and sometimes uncomfortable. Plus it's annoying to have to lug your laundry up five staircases, lol. There's an elevator that you can use during move-in. And the desks have drawers (three) but you're also given a chest-of-drawers, which are taller than the desks except on the 4th floor b/c of the slanted ceilings.

Congrats on South!

oh hey travelgirl - Hill is a really nice dorm from the standpoint that the rooms are HUGE. it used to be reserved for juniors and seniors b/c of the big rooms, but it was made all-freshman last year. It's uphill, closer to the academic quad, even though it's a ***** to get from the entrance to the top of the hill all the time, lol. And everyone in Hill brags about being able to walk downstairs in their PJs to get packages - I have to hike all the way up the hill, and Hill is so far uphill that it's DOWNHILL again, hahaha. Everyone I know in Hill was really happy, though, so congrats!

yay for hill! i'm so excited!

hey bluirinka, what floor are you on?

hee, 3rd floor, room 376. I'm Renee, btw

let me explain though - because of the right-angled hallways (and in the middle the elevator kind of splits the hallway in two...we named it The Seth Barrier, after the RA whose room is on it, lol) you won't necessarily meet all the people on your floor, unless you like go out knocking on doors or meet them outside of South. It's more likely that you'll even meet people from the floor above/below. I was on the 3rd floor but probably had more 4th floor good friends, and a ton of 2nd floor friends. (Except from the all-girls' section. No need for me to go THERE :-P)

I got Hill 124, a single. What are your thoughts on being in a single freshman year? How are the Hill singles? How are the bathrooms?

Any thoughts on Bush (the dorm, not the President-already have my opinion of him). Size of rooms, mostly fresh/soph/jun/sen, floors coed, etc. Thanks for the input...

How is the 4th floor of houston?

gr8fldad, I like Bush, it was one of my top choices to live in. It's a relatively small dorm so there's a nice sense of community on the floors. The first floor is a lounge that I think has a ping pong table and such. The rooms are a decent size, and rumor has it that they have hand dryers in the bathrooms (a big deal when there are no paper towels in most bathrooms, lol). I think this year it was a hockey dorm, or something, but that probably changed. It's really nice because it's right next to both Dewick and Hodgdon. I'm sure you guys will love it!

person, fourth floor houston was THE place to be last year. it was ABSOLUTELY crazy. we had an insane time. though it's the fourth floor and you have to haul your luggage in and out all those stairs and even laundry since the machines are in the basement, you get used to it.
the rooms aren't particularly big. however, the best thing about houston or any other freshman dorm for that matter is that it's all freshman. hence you will meet alot of people and the people on your floor have a high potential of being your 'buddies'.
the dining hall is also close by (carmichael) and olin (the foreign lang building) is right next door. it's in a great place.

i'm in 3rd floor houston- just wondering if you knew anything about it

is hill all freshman (i did request a freshman dorm)

i heard that this year it was converted into the third all freshman dorm. also, only the 4th and 5th floors are healthy living this year.
