how about probability instead of chance for SEAS?

Upcoming Junior, I really like Columbia I have a sister at Barnard who loves it there I've visited it before sat in on classes etc.) love the campus and vibe and I think its my top choice however I'm probably not one of theirs haha

Stats:
SAT: 2320 (800M, 740CR, 780W)
GPA: 3.8ish (terribly low but upward trend)
Rank: Top Decile
SAT ii: 800{Math ii, Physics, Bio M}
State: Pa (decrepit highschool, one kid went to Columbia from 09)

APs:
Bio
Physics B&C (C self study)
Language and comp
Stats (slight self study)
Macro& Microeconomics (self study)

I took Calc 1 and Calc 2 at a college during sophomore year
Also taking Number Theory (grad course) next semester

I have alot of EC's:
Chess Team (Varsity 3 years)
Scholastic Scrimmage (Varsity 3 years, captain senior year)
Science Olympiad( few state and regional medals)
Chamber Orchestra
Community Orchestra
FBLA(regional and state awards)
Model Congress
Mock Trial
NHS

I want to form Mu Theta Alpha at my school

Awards: a few math awards, want to try to have physics research published

I would give anything to be able to go here in two years, criticism as well as advice is much appreciated!!!

engineering a massive ponzi scheme may be a bit of a turnoff but you look pretty good otherwise. a good a chance as anyone. so, with my limited knowledge of seas: 40%? i could be way off.

^ ntrading, you do know that the ED application deadline for Columbia was not only November first, but also that the decisions were sent out on December 10th.
obviously this “probability” for SEAS is for RD.
I would say 30% chance… nothing about you really stands out. try writing some really unique essays to set you apart from everyone else.

hey man…so ur just in ur 1st semester of sophomore year??? uh…you did 5 AP tests in freshmen year??? am i misinterpreting something lol because if you really did that much in 1 and a half years of hs, then youre a beast and i wouldn’t sweat on your getting in columbia SEAS

However, even if those are your stats AFTER JUNIOR year, I wsould still say you have a decent shot ( prob more than 50 percent ). THe things that will make or break you are your essays and your teacher recs, since ur extracurricular is mediocre and your test scores are above average, but overall you are not tip top of academic bar. If your teachers say youre a student that loves studying and light up the classroom, and ur essays are passionate, chances are u’ll get in.

I would also suggest exerting more leadership…find some opportunites too…and of course, work on your GPA. nothing impossible.

GL!!!

wait youre a junior right? not a sophomore???
anyways, apply ED if this is your top choice. also, make your essays amazing. essays are what set people apart, because, though your stats are amazing, they arent something the adcom has never seen before.

Yes I am a junior do any of you go to Columbia?

^ uh well you said “upcoming junior” so I assumed you weren’t a junior yet lol.

I don’t go to Columbia, but I got in ED and I’m a proud lion '15 :D

I got into SEAS ED too! Lion '15!

^ high fivez.

tho im in the college…haha

What I would give to be in your guys’s shoes haha

^hey, i know the feeling haha. we’ve all been there though. you look like you’re in good shape, keep up the good work. that said, take a look through the e.d. decisions stats thread, and you’ll see a lot of really impressive people get rejected/deferred. keep that in mind, and do all you can to make yourself a compelling candidate - especially with your essays.

bump or whatever that meams

Dude you have a good shot. Just keep it up, and get good recs too.

Edit-- I would say >50% if essays and recs are good. Only class rank is dragging you down a bit. If you can get that up at a non competitive (I assume since you describe it as decrepit) school.

top 10% isnt good enough isnt that what they mostly go by for like stats? I’ll be in top 20 for sure

Like class rank will be >20/550
