How about the BME/BE?

I'm interested in neuroengineering and integrative biology. I have a second tier of schools too that I haven't heard back from. A friend told me yesterday that he called UPenn and they said that they are really behind in the apps this year. Most of my apps were put in just under the deadline b/c I was still picking on my essays, so that could be a very small influence on why I haven't heard yet.

You're probably fine, joho. It seems like most of the schools I applied to waited until after the deadline to actually start work on admissions. I still haven't heard back from most schools yet. It looks like you've applied to more schools in the top 10 than I have, so that could be a factor as well. Just my observations.

Also, I think that a 3.6 is a very respectable GPA. Even more respectable is the fact that you managed to maintain that GPA at a difficult program while working 30 hours per week and maintaining a heavy courseload. Congratulations on your success.

What type of program is the IGERT fellowhip at Ga Tech? I applied to an IGERT at Vandy in the materials sciences with an interest to do work in the nanobio area. I didn't realize that Ga Tech had an IGERT as well. I hope that works out for you.

By the way, I got a call from the director of graduate admissions at BU this morning. I called back and he was in a meeting. Hopefully this means good news. I'll update after I have a chance to speak with him.

Thanks vatn.

The GATech IGERT is here: http://www.neuro.gatech.edu/igert/
It is offered to BME PhD in either option, ECE, and Emory neuroscience students, so you get to go to the med school I think. It's much prettier there :)

Here is part of the email they sent me:

The IGERT (Integrated Graduate Education Research Training) fellowship is a 2 year fellowship that pays a stipend of $30 K and your tuition and fees. As a Biomedical Engineering IGERT fellow, during your second year you will get to participate in our signature course, Hybrid Neural Microsystems, which is a problem based learning graduate laboratory course. This course will allow you to design and implement a hybrid neural microsystem to address a specific problem posed to you by the instructor. In addition, during your second year you will work on a Year 2 project that will will be co advised by two advisors, one with a background in engineering and one with a neuroscience background. This Year 2 project will lead to your final dissertation project, to be co advised by the same two co advisors.

I really really really want this :/

Got an admittance by phone to BU! I'm really excited about this one.

joho, i agree with vatn, your stats sound great :) i wouldn't worry too much about submitting right before the deadline (that's pretty much what I did with all my apps)

vatn, congrats on bu! are you coming to one of the visiting weekends for prospective students?

Thanks, laurezer. Right now it looks like I'm going to the one starting on the 16th. I'm supposed to get more information on Tuesday.

joho, that program sounds great. I hope it works out for you.

Rejected from Hopkins today via real mail. Blargh.

Sorry, GoldenBeaR6. I could tell you all kinds of things about Hopkins Ph.D. that would make you happy you didn't come? j/k. I know Hopkins made all their final decisions last week so everyone should be hearing soon. Best of luck.

On a happier note, I got into Georgia Tech today! The woman who send out all their correspondonce, Beth Bullock, has been out of the office for a few days, so they haven't been sending things out during that time. And she just emailed me 10 min. ago. :)

Congrats! That's too bad things were delayed because someone was out of the office. Just think about how much stress that's causing across the nation haha.

Accepted to Rice today. Packet in the mail. $23.xxx.

First of all, congratulations, joho! When do you hear back about the IGERT?

Also got my rice acceptance, same deal as goldenbear (are you going to the recruitment weekend?) Also got my official acceptances from Minnesota and Vandy.

So far, I have heard back from UC Davis, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, BU, Rice, USC, and Michigan (I applied to way too many schools.)

Hope everyone is doing well.

Officially a Stanford reject. Just got it by e-mail.

Congrats on joining the club. You made it farther than the rest of us. I'll probably be at the Rice weekend. But I have tickets for a concert I really want to go to here. So if I get a better offer, I might skip it. We'll see.

Accepted at UCLA, but with only $17k?! They say they expect teaching, so hopefully that's what covers the rest.

I got my IGERT fellowship at GeorgiaTech!

Congrats! Is that where you think you'll end up?

Yup, no question about it now.

Anyone got a response from NW or Caltech yet? I haven't heard anything from those 2... O.o

NW BME decisions came out in early Feb. since visiting weekends are in March.
UPenn BE decisions are out as well.

State school are taking their time.

I called UCSD. If you haven't heard yet, your application has been sent down to the M.S. and M.Eng. committees. AKA rejected for PhD.
